I have been a small business owner for the last 15yrs. Over those years I've had success with several diffrent businesses. From being a bail bondsman owning a clothing store, and club owner. I currenty work in the hair care industry. I own a salon products distribution co and invest in real estate. I'm always looking for new oppurtunites and with all the amazing new developments in the Marijuana Culture. I wanted to get in on the ground floor and see what's really happening out west.
As you all have heard by now, there have been major changes in the Marijuana Culture. Its all over the headlines in the news you couldn't have missed it if you were on the couch sleep. On November, 6 2012 in two states voters went to the polls and cast their ballots and their voices were heard. Voters spoke with their ballots and the tide was changed. Colorado and Washington became the first two states in the United States to decriminalize the recreational use of marijuana. This was a big win in the fight against the prohibition and criminalization of its use medical and otherwise personal relaxation.
The vote on November, 6 2012 is already having an effect in Wa and Co. The new laws taking effect in Colorado and Washington, will defiantly lead to challenging new times. Endless opportunities to own or operate a marijuana related business.
Passed by voters last month as a ballot measure called Initiative 502, the new marijuana law removes criminal sanctions for anyone 21 or older possessing 1 ounce (28.5 grams) or less of pot for personal recreational use.
It also legalizes possession of up to 16 ounces (0.45 kg) of solid cannabis-infused goods - like brownies or cookies - and up to 72 ounces (2.4 kg) of weed in liquid form.
However, driving under the influence of cannabis, or imbibing in public places, where the consumption of alcohol already is banned, remains illegal.(Washington)
Colorado voters approved their own ballot measure in November Amendment 64 similar to Washington's, although it goes further by allowing individuals to grow small amounts for themselves. The effective date for Colorado's law is January 5. Both states are among 18 that already have removed criminal sanctions for medical use of marijuana.Prosecutors in several counties announced last month they were dismissing scores of misdemeanor marijuana possession cases following voter passage Initiative 502.(Source: CN/Reuters) Amendment 64 will legalize the personal use and possession of up to an ounce (28 grams) of pot by adults 21 and over. It also allows users to grow up to six plants at home.
Great news for those who may have been facing jail time. I'm not to crazy about all the legalization stuff. I really don't know which way it will end up and not to sure if the marijuana culture has a good idea either. It really doesn't matter to me, I'm all in either way, anything to keep the Jakes (police) off your back is good. And for anyone suffering from pain and discomfort I hope this eases the process for getting your medicine.
"Washington state legalized possession of up to one ounce of marijuana, but like Spain has kept possession and smoking in public illegal under federal law. According to the New York Times, the city’s police department has been told to stand down for now. In Colorado, things are very much in limbo.
Regulators are looking for guidance in this new territory, and the examples are not that clear.
It’s early days still, but judging from the experience of more open and liberal countries, the Washington and Colorado experiments, serving as laboratories for the rest of the country, will likely travel the same unclear route."(CN/Forbes Magazine)
The west coast is no stranger to Marijuana. The Legal use of Medical Marijuana with a prescription has been the law of the land since 1996. California being the first of 18 states and the District of Columbia that now recognize Medical Marijuana as being legal with a prescription. Colorado and Washington being the first to allow for its recreational use. There are a lot of possibilities on the rise in this new economy. I want to be in on it, Don't you!
In the news (http://www.cannabisnews.com/news/26/thread26613...) its been reported on how its nearly impossible for entrepreneurs in marijuana related businesses to obtain financing for their projects. Many lenders are reluctant to lend to marijuana related businesses. One reason for this is because under federal law marijuana is still illegal. Yes under federal law marijuana is still illegal in all 50 states. Even in states where Medical Marijuana has been approved under fed law its still illegal, so be careful. Whether public or private, cannabis use contradicts federal law, which classifies marijuana as an illegal narcotic.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, U.S. Attorney Jenny Durkan in Seattle reiterated the U.S. Justice Department position that growing, selling or possessing any amount of marijuana remained a federal crime, regardless of any changes in state law(Source: CN/Reuters).
For this reason alone lenders do not want to be held liable and charged for breaking federal law. I guess they don't want the tax man or the feds knocking at their door. If you ask me its just another excuse, with all the underhanded activity that goes on in the banking industry today. Banks are holding back and not loaning to small business anyway regardless of your type of business. So I'm reaching out to You and the Indiegogo community for your support. And for all those who enjoy the Marijuana Culture I need you to donate and support this campaign.
