Hello!
My name is Saba and I'm the Writer, Director, Actress and Producer of the "Ice Cream."

I grew up in Tehran and earned my BA from Art university of Tehran in Theater Directing.  I began my filmmaking career as an editor for feature films and I eventually moved to New York City to pursue my MFA in Film and TV production at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. My second year movie at NYU, "The Wind is Blowing on my Street," has screened at more than 50 festivals, including Sundance International competition, Claremont Ferrand, LA Film Festival, BFI Film Festival and has won more than 20 awards worldwide.

I am making "Ice Cream" as my thesis to obtain my MFA degree from NYU's Graduate Film program. I need $10,000 to make this movie happen.

"Ice Cream": The Story
Maryam loves ice-cream. But the price of ice cream keeps increasing.
Maryam is an editor for a literary magazine in Tehran but loses her job when the magazine shuts down because the price of paper has sky-rocketed as a result of economic sanctions.  She loses her apartment because the rent has increased. Now she has to stay with her grandma while she looks for an apartment and a job and spends every night explaining to her grandma why she isn't married. In the meantime, she meets with Mohammad who is a real estate agent and a former journalist…

About "Ice Cream"
"Ice Cream" is about Maryam, who despite the challenges she faces and despite the fact that she has to justify her life constantly to the people around her, she perseveres and takes the path to building her own life. She chooses the path of hope and rationality in an increasingly irrational and chaotic world that is intent on standing in her way.

Why now?
Recently, economic sanctions imposed by the international community on Iran have put even more pressure on the young generation: economic challenges. People who have long been struggling to fight for their democratic rights are now faced with the extra burden of dealing with an almost 400% of inflation on the prices. In "Ice Cream" I would like to portray part of this challenge, which is mostly weighing on the shoulders of young people who are at the beginning of their paths to building their lives, but whose obstacles, given the circumstances, have multiplied.

Funding "Ice Cream"
I have recently been struggling to raise funds for the movies I want to make. Unfortunately, my sources inside Iran have dried up due to a collapse in the economy and I figured crowd-funding would be my way to make this movie happen. Your donations, however small are much appreciated. Your generous donations will help us with the below costs:

  • Equipment rental (Including camera, lighting, and sound…)
  • TransportationFood for the crew
  • Travel and accommodation for the crew
  • Locations
  • Set design, props, customs
  • Post production (Editing, sound design, music)

AND A LOT MORE...
