The Concept: What is Mamma Mary's Porridge Buffet?
The Silver Streak trailer which was the home of The Honey Pot for the last 2 years is now listed for sale on eBay.
Mary is raising capital to get her cart back, and start something completely new! She longs to reconnect with her community and bring her fans another concept to adore. Mary’s new vision is called Mamma Mary's, and it is a porridge buffet. She will concoct delicious and wholesome whole grain porridges (naturally vegan and gluten free!) served with a buffet of fresh, local, and satisfying seasonally rotating toppings. Such as, nut, coconut and raw cow milk, handcrafted butter, local fresh and dried fruits, nuts and seeds, and hand-ground spice blends. A small assortment of sides will be available to round out the healthful breakfast experience such as artisan sausages, deviled local eggs, steamed veggies, and blended hot teas.
Mary is focusing on hot porridge because it is currently not being done by anyone else in the Portland area, and it has the desired profit margins for success. Whole grains, even local and organic, are fairly inexpensive, available year round, and delicious! Mary knows that a business in the food service industry must not only satisfy people's hunger, but also their budget, and still turn a profit at the end of the day. Mamma Mary's particular model has the winning combination of low overhead, low expenses, and low food cost percentages while offering it's customers healthful meals they can comfortably enjoy daily.
The flagships Mamma Mary's cart will be located downtown in an area of heavy traffic. Long terms plans include building a small fleet of carts located along morning commuter arteries in the Portland area. Also, a highly mobile push cart will be built for catering conferences or large groups and events such as festivals and marathons.
Mary will rekindle her culinary passion and use her 12 years of baking and pastry experience to carefully grow Mamma Mary's into a Portland landmark. Furthermore, she will return part of the company's yearly profits back to the Portland community by providing healthful and inexpensive meals to families in need. But, she needs your support to make all of this a reality!
Will you help Mary raise the capital to get her cart back? The total project budget is roughly $25,000. $10,000 of which Mary is self-funding. The fundraising goal is $15,000 to cover the remainder. This total amount includes the purchase price of the cart (listed for $17,000), retooling it with equipment and supplies for the new menu, initial advertising, and a little bit of working capital for a solid start.
