a short film by shaun kelly
Li'l old me.
I'm a bit of everything, a real creative mongrel. A bit of a musician, a damn good singer, songwriter, photographer, cinematographer and most importantly, a writer and director. I've been honing my skills; and in March of this year I shot my first music film clip for TV. With this short film, I want to secure my aspirations of self-expression through film.
My passion lies in the creative process.
Recently I've started seeing the world with fresh eyes, all the stuff we're surrounded with especially in the western world. People outsource their personalities to places like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube and that's what i, Cloud is about.
What's it all about?
Well I'm glad you asked!
Our protangonist, Jace, is an average guy; so average in fact that he has built an online persona to stand out in cyberspace. He pours so much of himself and his hopes and dreams into the keyboard that the digital world threatens to consume him.
It's a little social commentary mixed with action, martial arts and science fiction. I've never been one for hard and fast labels but it's going to be sick, dark and funny... can't go wrong!
Be responsible for transforming this story from concept to an award winning short film.
Where's that cash going?
Originally we were going to shoot the whole thing guerrilla style on our own DSLR equipment, but as the storyboard came together I began to see that what I had was a little more epic. So we're going to put the cash into upscaling our production values and get the visuals to honour the story.
We'll use the funds for cameras, lenses, lighting and sound that we wouldn't dream of if we were on our own. The money will also go toward buying some of the skill-sets we haven't got covered in our merry band, like a sound-recordist, production designer and music composer.
$30,000 would be amazing but we'll take as much as we can get. Every dollar in the coffer is a one hundred cent boost to our potential.
There won't be any left, whatever we get we'll put into the movie, but we're here to make careers and take as many people as we can on the ride.
And after it's in the can?
Film festivals. Yup, I want to take it to Sundance, Cannes, Raindance, Flickerfest, Palm Springs and basically anywhere we can get the work shown.
And after that?
More films y'all! Maybe we'll be back at IGG, maybe not (but more than likely yes), whatever happens this is the future and we would love your help in making it a reality through the power of people.
Other Ways You Can HelpIf you can't help financially then please, please, share our project with everything you've got. Share on Facebook with your fingers while sending a tweet with your big toe as you record a plea on Youtube. The film may be a comment on social media but only because it actually is powerful and so are people in numbers. Bring something real out of the ether!
When will you get your stuff?
An important question to be sure.
Any of the digital media that will be acquired during rehearsal and the shooting period such as photos and raw footage will be sent out as soon as possible. The shoot won't take place until about 4-5 weeks after the close of the campaign.
Stuff like the online preview screening, credit listings and the wrap party/premiere won't be available until the project is complete. I've listed the 31st of October 2013 as the wrap and premiere because it's my birthday and there isn't any other way I'd like to spend it.
In the case of the production being pushed back a little you will be kept in the loop regarding rescheduling although at this point we're in good shape.
How awesome are you? Yeah that's right, I'm talking to you buddy!
Well, hella awesome actually! Without you this project may never see the light of day, so give yourself a pat on the back and spread the word.
