LET'S GET SERIOUS, NOW.The Story...
Terror rules Krunk City. People are exploding in the streets. Krunk, the most addictive and deadly drug ever created, has seized control. For drug lord Tommy Graves, business is booming, literally - 'cause no one goes cold turkey on Krunk! You either krunk, or you be junk!
When homeless man John Hunter stumbles across Tommy's secret lab and destroys it while trying to flee, he's forced to eat the spoiled krunk and is tossed into the garbage to die in horrible agony...just another innocent victim denied justice.
Only one man has the stomach to clean up this town - disgraced former detective Jack Baxter, aka Ninja Assassin Cop, whose crusade to wipe out his nemesis Tommy Graves is the only thing that will give his murdered family peace. But something is killing the human refuse before he can. Surely reports of a hideous, slimy creature, hell-bent on revenge are simply drug-fuelled delusions? The trail of gore and garbage is real enough, though, and it leads straight to Tommy Graves...
Who will rise above this tsunami of blood, guts and filth? One thing's for sure - this is going to be messy!
An homage to the horror and action films of the 80's, with practical effects inspired by Tom Savini and a neon/punk production design like Class of 1999, The Return of the Living Dead and Dead-End Drive In. It's low budget, gritty and full of heart.
Human Garbage is based on the Night of the Garbage Monster concept trailer we made in 2013. We made this trailer for a few hundred bucks and shot it using a Canon Legria HFG10. We added a small amount of visual effects, including green screen compositing, and used anything we could get our hands on for monster effects. We made all the blood and slime from scratch because it was much more cost effective, and everyone got involved for free whenever we had the time.
Who we are.
My name is Rob Taylor and I'm a filmmaker from Melbourne, Australia. Filmmaking is my passion. Why? I eat and breathe films. In the intro video you can see my collection of classic VHS in the background.
Phanterror Films was created to make horror films. Initially developed while I was at film school, it has since expanded and grown in ambition. It started when I created the trailer for as yet unmade film Night of the Garbage Monster. That trailer had a life of its own. It won the StopNWatch short film competition. It featured across the country at the Trasharama a-go-go film festival.
After this success Phanterror expanded its production slate. Releasing The Desecrator'Balancing on a Blade' music video and the 'Australian Entities 45 minute paranormal documentary in 2013.
Human Garbage will be the first feature film for myself and for Phanterror. But I can't make this film alone. I have great mentors and collaborators - but we need supporters to realise the film. Myself and the crew at Phanterror Video can't wait to get started on this project!
Why do we want to make this film?
Directing a feature film is a lifetime goal for any filmmaker. The task of creating a feature genre film from scratch is not easy in the independent world, that's why we need your help, to create our first feature genre film. This film is an homage to the horror films and cartoons that we grew up with in the 80's, we want to give back to the horror community and create a film that has all the creatures, gore, suspense and action in 80's practical effects style. We will use CGI sparingly for atmospheric purposes.
Where will the money go?
$88,000 is considered peanuts in the world of feature filmmaking but in order to make this film we need to pay our cast and crew! That being said, because this is a highly effects-driven film, this is where a lot of the funds will be spent, as well as locations, transport, makeup, wardrobe, production design, post production, film festivals and most importantly, a very generous catering service for our cast and crew.
If we don't reach our target, the funds will be still be used towards the film and we will look at private investors to fund the rest. If we reach well above our target, then we will put that money towards better effects, or even pay our cast and crew!
What's in it for you?
By helping fund this film, you will help to add Human Garbage to the list of modern horror films emerging that are honouring practical effects over CGI. It's more real and more frightening. We're letting you get involved, if you're in the Melbourne region or you're willing to travel here, you can be an extra in the film, or you can DIE in the film!
