 Short Summary

As a film-maker I'm interested in telling stories of characters facing upheaval, change, and realisation; interacting in a recognisable world that is threaded with an element of magical realism. It's a (conscious) move away from the familiar style of British films in recent times - no Cockney gangsters; no black youth gangs; no council estates; no period setting; no retro fitted stories; no bitter ex-miners or steelworkers bemoaning days gone by.

It's about telling stories with power, emotion and feeling, stories that engage audiences. Stories that catch you unaware and leave you feeling moved, challenged and entertained.

And here we have just the story, called "How To Fly A Kite".

"Dealing with the loss of his older brother and the broken home he comes from, 16 year old Kasper finds love with a young girl across the street and a curious interest in a mysterious figure who offers help and advice on love, loss and life."

With a twist in it's tail we think this story would be both unique and eye catching, the kind of feel good movie that reminds all of us of our own experiences of young love and happy times and also makes us question the choices and chances we've had in life.

We're asking you to help get us off the ground and support us in creating the next British hit film. Together with my executive producer I am looking for development funding that can help polish an already pretty developed script.

What We Need & What You Get

This is the easy bit - we're looking for between £1000 and £1500 to hire a script editor who can help polish the script to perfection. It's currently in it's fourth draft and needs a fresh pair of eyes to develop some specific dialogue and, in particular, one of the sub-plots.

You can contribute as little or as much as you like by clicking the CONTRIBUTE NOW button on the right hand side.

For people willing to give a little more there are a range of different perks available. Check the Perks section on the right hand side of the screen for details.

The Impact

The final script will be pitched to investors and backers so it needs to be as good as it can be. We need to bring an experienced and talented script editor on board to help hone it to perfection.

As an experienced as a writer and director in the short film form already I know that writing a feature is a sophisticated task and - despite the massive amount of thought, preparation, pre-writing and re-writing that has gone into this project already - a talented script editor would make a huge difference between creating a film on the level of "Kes" or "Billy Elliott" or not making a film at all.
