On October 2nd, 2006, my oldest brother Charles Carl Roberts IV, walked into a one-room Amish school house in Nickel Mines, PA, close to where he lived. There he shot and killed five young Amish girls and injured five more. Moments later he took his own life. The question of why will forever be unanswered.
School shootings have become an all too familiar sight in the US, and for us it´s important to make a film not only about the tragic incident, we want to explore how the families involved could start the healing process. My mother, Terri Roberts, picks up the pieces after one of her son's senseless mass murder spree and suicide and on the very same day as the tragic incident, the Amish community decided to forgive. This particular story, despite the terrible loss of innocent life, actually turned into something quite unexpected and hopeful.
We are now at a point where we need your help to complete this documentary. In terms of production, we have shot the initial footage and we now more than ever understand the importance of this film. The story on hope and forgiveness has something for everyone, all walks of life, to draw from and your collaboration will give us the ability to move forward on this project.
WHY AM I DOING THIS MOVIE?
When this happened to my family, my instant reaction as the brother of the perpetrator was to put as much distance as I could between myself and what took place. For many years I didn’t want to go back to Pennsylvania and what eventually brought me back was my mother´s strong desire to use her experience to help others and the display of forgiveness and support from the surrounding Amish community. This created a context in which the families were able to heal together. Now, seven years later, after so much has happened, I feel it´s time to give this story a greater platform, a greater audience.

INDIEGOGO - WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
We are extremely dedicated into making this film a reality. We now have a great team and we have all invested our time without collecting a cent. For initial footage, we also invested our own money into making that happen. We will continue to invest our time in this, because we feel it´s such an important story, but now we need your help for additional footage and post production.
We decided to turn to crowdfunding to reduce our dependence on traditional film interests. We want people to know about our project and we also want to offer an opportunity to become involved. The integrity of the subject matter is crucial and since we feel this story we´re doing can appeal to all people we also let all people in. That´s how we figured.
What if you don´t reach your campaign goal?
Any and all money received from this campaign will go towards making this documentary. Even if it is not exactly the amount we aim for.
What if you exceed your campaign goal?
Same applies if we would be so fortunate to exceed our goal. Any and all money will be invested in making this documentary even better. It will give us more time on set in Pennsylvania.
Why are you going with ‘Flexible Funding’ on Indiegogo?
Since we already shot the initial footage and the film is in production, we are dedicated into making this film a reality. This campaign has been created to make this happen asap. We can´t wait to get this story out. With you involved it will become so much stronger.
When will I be able to view this documentary?
We are doing everything we can to have a feature-length documentary out during next year. Still a lot of work ahead of us.
Why should I support this project?
This is a story that deserves a greater audience.
