The HONU is a sidemount buoyancy compensator that was designed for destination diving.
The HONU was designed to satisfy a need that I had for a sidemount rig that was suited for destination diving. Since the first coffee napkin sketch 18 months ago, the HONU has been turned into a fully functional device that has been proven in various recreational diving environments. At 6 pounds, the HONU is light enough to roll up and place into a carry-on bag when traveling. With 27 pounds of lift, the HONU has sufficient lift for most any cylinder configuration. The convenient location of the rear dump valve will make it easy to maintain neutral buoyancy while maintaining a sublevel orientation. The single bladder of the HONU is ideal for scuba diving within recreational diving limits. To maintain a streamlined profile in the water, three integrated weight pockets have been placed into the lumbar region. Each weight pocket is designed to carry up to three pounds of weight. For many scuba divers, this will eliminate the need for weight belts or additional weight pockets.
The design of the HONU was 'Born in Texas'! The manufacturer is located in Wuxi (pronounced woo-she), China, which is just outside of Shanghai. The manufacturer that we selected is the largest manufacturer of buoyancy compensator devices in Asia, and is ISO 9001:2000 certified. (It is possible that your current buoyancy compensator was also made by this manufacturer!) The parent company of this manufacturer is located in California and owns "top of mind" brands within the scuba diving industry. Our manufactuer has proven it's ability to rapidly produce small prototype orders, and we have established a solid relationship with them over the past year. A face to face meeting with our manufacurer has further strengthened our relationship.

You can easily mount a single steel 100, twin steel 85s, or other steel or aluminum cylinder configurations smaller than twin steel 85s. I prefer to use twin aluminum 40s for recreational diving.
What about sizing?
One size fits most. This device is not currently offered for small framed persons. Don’t worry…we will be offering this device for small framed persons in the future.
We really appreciate your support of this campaign! To date, we have financed this project by our boot straps. Without your support, we will have really cool sidemount buoyancy compensators for our personal use, but we will not be able to share the HONU with others. That would be sad. So, thank you for helping us to share the HONU with other destination divers. We are looking forward to seeing where the HONU travels to. It will also be a thrill to dive with other HONU owners. If you are in the neighborhood, let's go diving!
Not a scuba diver?
That's okay! You probably know a scuba diver. And if you do, chances are they are a destination diver. If you like what we are trying to do, it would be terrific if you could let your scuba diving friends know about this campaign. Let us know if you referred someone to us, so that we can Thank You!
