Hold On Magnolia is the story of a young widow whose husband was murdered in cold blood by a band of thieves in 1964 rural Texas. After the law is unable to bring them to justice, she sets out to track them down and exact revenge for their trespasses.
This film is being made by Dual Tape Deck, a collective of actors, writers, and producers with years of experience in independent productions, film, and theater. We're all poor, struggling artists that work full-time jobs and still manage to barely make ends meet. However, we all share a passion for storytelling and continually sacrifice a great deal of time and money to make our films.
The script is written, we're in the process of filling out the supporting cast, and shooting is scheduled to take place in December 2013 over three days around central Texas.
Obviously, doing a period film with practical effects (i.e. buckets of fake blood) is going to cost some money. We're DIY filmmakers to the core which means we stretch our budget. We buy props used, we build our own rigs, and everyone in the cast and crew contributes to all aspects of the production. Simply put, the money that you contribute will allow us to tell our story in the manner we want to tell it. Here's a breakdown of our budget for this film:
- Props: $250
- Locations: $100
- Costumes: $400
- Practical Effects: $150
- Gear Rental: $200
- Food: $250
- Incidentals: $150
In addition to our monetary needs, there is a great deal that you can do if you want to support the production. Sharing our trailer on your social media platform of choice would go a long way in helping raise awareness for this project. With the sheer volume of content being thrown at individuals every second from every different direction, chances are that most independent productions will not be seen by a sizable audience. Linking to us on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc. would be an invaluable service to our production.
