ur-: a prefix meaning “earliest, original,” used in words denoting the primal stage of a historical or cultural entity or phenomenon.
metal: energetic, highly amplified rock music characterized by a heavy beat, often accompanied by dark lyrics with fantastic imagery.
San Antonio ur-metal/heavy psychedelic band Hogbitch has finished recording its self-titled debut album. Pre-sales of this hotly anticipated release and accompanying merchandise will help us deliver it to your turntable, CD player and/or hard drive.
With its 2012 formation, Hogbitch brought together four of San Antonio's preeminent underground musicians: Suzy Bravo (Suzy Bravo & the Soul Revue, Hammered), Sanford Allen (Boxcar Satan, Evil Mothers), Patrick Sane (Boxcar Satan, Evil Mothers) and Chip Alexander (Martyrhead, Evil Mothers, Psychoholics). Live, the band has turned ears inside out with a blend of ultra-heavy riffage, soulful vocals, super-nova energy and lysergic experimentation.
Eager to capture that magic on a recording, Hogbitch six months ago holed up in scenic Doghouse Studios and began crafting its debut album with Bobdog Catlin (S.A. Slayer, Juggernaut, Evil Mothers, Pseudo Buddha) at the controls. The 11-track album documents Hogbitch's exploration of the sonority of space and the tempests of time. Its songs mix light and shadow, earth and sky, doom and the divine.
The debut album is scheduled for a fall release on high-quality audiophile vinyl, CD and via digital download — all with breathtaking packaging, including Chris Panatier's "Axecutrix" cover painting.
But here's the catch: the recording still needs to be mastered, pressed and distributed to media outlets.
What We Need & What You Get
You can help us raise the $5,000 needed to cover these costs by purchasing an advance copy of the album (on vinyl, CD or as a download), exclusive Hogbitch merchandise and other special packages listed here on IndieGoGo. You can even become one of the elite sponsors who win guest-list privileges and lifetime discounts on future merchandise, among other insanely cool perks.
But move fast, piggies! We only have a month to raise the money. The campaign ends Tuesday, Aug. 20.
Watch the video for music samples, footage of the band onstage and a sneak peak at the album artwork. Remember that the exclusive t-shirts, buttons and posters we're offering via this campaign will only be available to fans who get in on the ground floor. We won't be printing these designs again.
We worked hard on this recording, and want to give our fans and supporters a chance to help unleash it on an unsuspecting world. With a new album released, we can also do extensive touring, which means we can bring the Hogbitch circus to your hometown (even if you live overseas).
Any extra cash we earn above our goal will go toward shipping press packs across the globe, producing new merchandise and keeping our van running so we can spread the ur-metal gospel far and wide.
With both Hogbitch and our previous bands, you have shown us dedication, support and undying love for adventurous music. We have never taken that support for granted, and we know you'll come through for us again. No contribution is too small or too large.
All prices in the United States include postage. Airmail prices will apply to overseas orders.
If you're looking to live high on the hog, now's your chance! Thanks!
