Hi. We're some of the creative individuals behind Heroes of the North, an award-winning transmedia webseries about Canadian superheroes. We're a group of 20-,30-,40- and 50-something actors and creators from Montreal and Quebec, Canada. We have produced a wildly successful first Season of 20 episodes and released six comic books (over 350 pages in total) related to the series. For our second Season, we want to increase the length of the episodes and bring up the production value significantly, as close as possible to TV levels at the very least, as well as introduce at least one superhero for each of the Canadian provinces and territories. The series is a great piece of web-based entertainment, but we need your help to get it up to speed.
We need to raise $100,000 to cover the cost of salaries, locations, food, costumes, equipments, and other things needed to produce 10 x 22 minutes episodes of our award-winning superhero Web Series. We want to go bigger and better in every way - more heroes and heroines (in fact at least one per province and territories), more villains, more action, more effects, and way more ambitious locations! So we're turning to our strongest supporters to ask for contributions. In exchange, we're offering comics, DVDs, books, appearance in the show, T-Shirts... Your contribution will help us continue the ambitious work we started with Season One and further, it will help support the artists and writers here in Montreal that are making this show possible. Thanks!
Since its launch, the series has received over 2 million aggregated views on all the platforms on which it is available (Koldcast, BlipTV, YouTube, DailyMotion, etc.) and is now available on DVD, while the comic book compilations and the toy figurines are also available in every local comic book shop in North America.
If you haven't seen the first Season yet, click here to watch it!
And here is the Trailer!
Season Two will be directed by Christian Viel (co-creator, writer, producer, director, editor & VFX artist for Season One, as well as producer, director & editor of seven internationally distributed feature films, producer & director of the acclaimed web series Wannabi, and director of over a hundred short films and music videos).
Season Two also features the writing skills of Michel Brouillette (Season One, La Brigadière, several TV shows currently in development & actor playing the Canadian Shield) and Yann Brouillette (several Season One episodes, most of Season One comic books & actor playing Alpha Q).
Anderson Bradshaw (the other co-creator of the series, ex-military, stuntman, costume designer & actor playing 8 Ball) will be handling the tactical and military aspects of the show, the stunt coordination and overall fight choreography.
Marie-Claude Bourbonnais (internationally acclaimed cosplayer and glamour model, costume designer and creator for the leather outfits of Season Two & actor playing Hornet).
Howard Rosenstein is on board to help produce the series, as well as play Donovan, the Heroes of the North official boss, who will have a major role to play in Season 2.
Jean-Dominic Leduc, an actor and writer in his own right, also plays one of the New Felquists in Season One (Episodes 16 and 17) also offers his consulting and writing skills on both the web series screenplay front and the comic book front.
Additionally, many of the key creative and production personnel from Season One are returning for Season Two, along with most of the cast!
We're asking for $100,000 - which is about the amount of money we spent on Season One (web series). This, as a minimum, will let us achieve the same level of quality we achieved in the first season. If we include the comic books, books, convention appearances and so on, we spent around $200,000 for the entire Season One project...
We think that tools such as IndieGogo are instrumental for the future of small indie content creators like ourselves and we believe in complete transparency, so we put our Season Two budget and the entire Season One cost breakdown in the files section in the gallery.
So come on Canada! If we are willing to put down $200K to watch Mayor Ford smoke crack on a phone video, we can make this cool show happen!
That being said, we want to go bigger with Season Two, so we've created a number of stretch goals which will allow us to make Season Two even better:
- $150,000 - We will shoot 5 ADDITIONAL EPISODES focusing more on some of the newly introduced characters of Season 2, such as Jackpot, Wild Rose, Saskana, The Islander and Lighthouse, bringing the total running time to 330 minutes!
- $200,000 - Another 5 ADDITIONAL EPISODES focusing on all the new Heroes from other provinces and territories, such as Borealis, Yellow Knife, Carcajou and so on, bringing the total screen time to 440 minutes!
- $500,000 - We will make a 24 pages self contained comic book story about each and every hero of the series - that is 20 additional comic books! And we will commission artist Greg Horn to do a painted cover for that limited edition trade paperback. We will also be able to bring more of our actors to many more conventions across Canada and the United States.
- $750,000 - We will create a VIDEOGAME starring every hero fighting every villains of the series. We have been working on this video game for quite some time, since Season One in fact. It takes forever and it is quite costly. A quarter of a million is what is needed to get it done indeed...
- $1,000,000 - Limited theatrical run - we'll take this show on the road and have theatrical screenings in select cities around the country!
Remember - every dollar you pledge goes directly into the series. By buying some gear, you're helping us make the final product even better!

Season Two will take place over ten TV-length episodes, for a total of 220 minutes of action-packed goodness.
Season Two begins in North Korea, in the aftermath of the events of the Rescue - Season Finale comic book. From there, we go back to the final days of World War II as the Canadian Shield and Falcon (8 Ball's grandfather) try to avoid being made prisoners by the Soviets as they charge the Reichstag. Obsessed with stopping Mengele's machinations, the two men put everything on the line to find the mad man...
At Nordik's funeral, The Canadian's grief is overwhelming. He starts exhibiting signs of troubling behaviour. The team has little time to mourn as they are dispatched to an abandonned Arctic weather station to investigate suspicious activities. They confront and capture Hornet and find troubling elements that gives them further information about Mengele's plans.
Hornet's sister and the deadly Mantis boldly attack the CDO in broad daylight to free Hornet and recover a precious artefact confiscated by the team during the Arctic raid. Worried sick by Fleur-de-Lys' disappearance, Nordik's death and his desire for revenge, The Canadian loses it and commits an irreparable act.
Confronted over his actions by Easton, The Canadian quits the team. Easton assigns Acadia to keep an eye on him. 8 Ball decides to track Mantis, who looks suspiciously like his deceased wife, Bronwyn...
Black Terror causes more grief to Madame Doom by targeting her drug dealers and it helps him uncover a massive Medusa operation.
With The Canadian gone, Easton requests more help from the WDO. Voda is assigned to Montreal and immediately asked to find a eco-terrorist who just blew up a train full of genetically modified corn. Lily Ryder is wanted by the CDO who wants to provide her with a blanket amnesty if she accepts the task of becoming Saskana, the new Saskatchewan superheroine.
Tasked with wiping the James Bay dam off the map, the New Felquists recruit new members and practice in Montreal's water supply, creating city wide havoc. Mr. Brown delivers Fleur-de-Lys to Medusa Commander and Hornet.
The Canadian, now rogue, tracks down everyone involved with Fleur-de-Lys' kidnapping. Acadia intervenes and convinces him to come back and be the leader he was always meant to be, despite his self-doubts.
A plot against the Minister of Defense and Parliament Hill is uncovered, forcing all Canadian heroes to team up in Ottawa while one of the heroes is sent to stop the New Felquists at the James Bay dam.
The Medusa Commander's carefully orchestrated plot causes a lot of grief for our heroes while the hero dispatched to the James Bay dam manages to recover Fleur-de-Lys in time to reunite everyone for the final SHOWDOWN on Parliament hill!
Plus a whole lot more we can't tell you because it would spoil everything!
CAN YOU BELIEVE all this takes place in just TEN sensational episodes?!? Neither can we!
We believe we're on the verge of a creative revolution - the intersection of independent content creators with a system for an audience to fund projects. That means for the first time in film history, the gatekeepers of content have been made obsolete. We as creators can be supported by our audience. And that is great news!
We could not have made Season One without the generous support and patience of our fans, and with Season Two, we're looking to push the envelope in terms of what we, as indie filmmakers, can accomplish.
We sincerely hope you will feel like taking this journey with us! Together, let's revolutionize the way movies and TV shows are made, watched, and funded!
We understand that most of our friends and fans are in the same boat as we are and many times you guys don't have the finances to throw money around. That's OK. Even if you can’t contribute financially, if you like our show (or even if you don't but like our can do attitude and insane ambition!) you can:
- Get the word out! Share the campaign on facebook or any of the other social networks! Be sure to like our Facebook page, follow us on twitter and tweet about us! Anything and everything helps!
- Tell your family and friends about the project. Tell your neighbors!
- If you have a specific friend you think will like this project, send it to them in an email.
- Talk loudly on the metro, subway, bus or ANY public place about this amazing webseries you heard about called Heroes of the North!
- Any way you can think of to help promote this campaign and get the word out (within the limits of the law, of course - please do not deface any buildings on our behalf!), are most welcome and will earn at the very least our utmost gratitude! And if you send us an email about what you did, we will even add you to our gratitude page on our website.
- You can also use this cool retro advertisement featuring the Canadian Shield himself on your Facebook, Tumbler and any other social media sites you think it would look nice on!
Movie Seals Digital is, yes, actually a real company, that was created to do web series and transmedia content. We are dedicated to the idea of telling compelling stories in new and interesting ways. Thank you for giving us these opportunities.
We face the usual risks of film and TV production and we are offsetting that risk in the industry-standard way - production insurance, contingency plans, and a production team with decades of experience.
Of the projects that are part of this Indiegogo endeavour, the creation of the books and the web episodes are already prepped and ready to go. We simply need the money to start paying people to produce, manufacture, film & edit them.
When and if we hit our goal then it's just a case of getting all the costumes built and locations secured. Costumes and props creation is already under way. Cast is ready to rock! Locations are being looked into now so by the time the shoot happens, we will be good to go!
At the end of the day, we've done this once before already with the first season of Heroes of the North. We are confident that should any production exigencies arise, as they do, we will be more than qualified and capable to handle them.
With regard to backer fulfillments, most of the other perks are readily available and ready to ship.
Of course, we'll have to work our butts off, but we're ready for that. We're used to it. Thank you for your support.
