This campaign is NOT affiliated with or sponsored by The Society of Saint Vincent De Paul in any way. The Society is aware of our efforts and is grateful for the donations they have received both via this campaign and directly, but it is important that all potential donors are aware that we do NOT speak for or represent the Society of Saint Vincent De Paul.
The Society is an apolitical organization. We respect that and hope you do also.
See below if you would like to donate directly to the Society of Saint Vincent De Paul or the Mahoning County Chapter.
And as always, thank you for your support!
We'll post important updates here. Be sure to check the "Updates" tab for general updates on the campaign!
A Word From The Mahoning County Society of Saint Vincent de Paul
I had the privilege of speaking with Brian Antal, the President of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul chapter that has been at the center of this whole situation, and he asked me to share this with everyone:
Thank you to all that are supporting the hard work of our Volunteers and helping the 100,000 individuals we serve annually. The donations, kind words and support are all very much welcome and appreciated.
Brian J. Antal,
St. Vincent de Paul Society Mahoning County
WE HAVE REACHED THE GOAL, BUT WE'RE NOT DONE YET!
Although we reached our original goal of ten thousand dollars in about 30 hours, we're going to keep this campaign running for its original duration. No matter how much more comes in, you have all done something incredible here. Thank you, one and all.
Other Ways To Donate
The Mahoning County Saint Vincent De Paul Society has a donation site of their own. You con find it here: http://mahoningsvdp.org/
We're happy to have you donate to this InideGoGo, but there are plenty of ways to make your contribution and help people in need:

Checks to directly benefit the Mahoning County Society of Saint Vincent De Paul can be sent here:

Or, of course you can contribute to this IndieGoGo campaign!
We're going to keep running this campaign for its original duration and keep it open for donations. Any that come in minus the cost of the t-shirts and card perks will be sent to the Mahoning County Society of Saint Vincent De Paul. The t-shirts and such will be very inexpensive and we're looking at the possibilty of some in-kind contributions to reduce the cost even further, so we can maximize the amount that goes to the Society.
Thank you all!

In the wake of Paul Ryan's photo op at an Ohio soup kitchen, some supporters have been withholding donations due to the political fallout.
We believe it is unconscionable that the hundred thousand people who get meals every year from this soup kitchen should suffer because of partisan antics.
See an article here on the controversy and its fallout:
By donating to this IndieGoGo campaign you will be directly helping the Saint Vincent DePaul Society fund its soup kitchen and make up for the lost donors in the wake of the Ryan photo op controversy.
How Did This Start?
A group of users of the web site Fark (http://fark.com), which is a news aggregator and commentary site, heard about the backlash against the Saint Vincent DePaul Society soup kitchen in Youngstown, Ohio. We decided to thumb our noses at the people who would take away money from the needy in the name of punishing someone politically.
We are running this as a Flexible Funding Campaign. All funds received, no matter how much, will go to the Saint Vincent DePaul Society with a request that they be distributed to directly fund this soup kitchen.
The Society of Saint Vincent DePaul is a charity dedicated to helping people at the indivdual level. This soup kitchen is only one of their charitable efforts, but by donating to this campaign you will be helping ensure that the charitable efforts of this soup kitchen can continue and make a real difference in people's lives.

Note: This IndieGoGo campaign is NOT affiliated with the Society of Saint Vincent DePaul. We're just a group of folks who think it's unfair for a charity that feeds homeless people to be caught in the crossfire of the Presidential campaigns.
Support Local Charities!
If you can, please consider donating your time or money to a local soup kitchen, homeless shelter or another charity local to you. By helping those near us, we help ourselves.
If you have questions about this campaign, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks for your support!
