On Saturday, July 12, 2014 our 5 year old male German Shorthair Pointer “Chester” went missing from our home. He had been out playing in the yard with the kids and basically disappeared. We searched the surrounding area thinking that maybe he got lost in one of the surrounding fields and couldn’t find his way out. We called for him for hours as well as drove the surrounding country roads. We contacted area Vets as well as Animal Control, The Humane Society, Sheriff Department, Local stores and Businesses. For 6 days we looked and called for him.
On the evening of July 18, 2014 while playing with the kids in our backyard we heard a dog crying and whining. We followed the sound into the field directly in back of our house and found Chester laying under a tree. He had been criminally abused by someone who found pleasure in wrapping his hind legs individually with wire and then wrapping his legs together so he couldn’t walk or escape. He was immediately taken to Wilson’s Veterinary Clinic near Richmond, MI where the fantastic Vets and staff immediately assessed the wounds and started treatment. They stated that this was an intentional act by someone and there was no way he could have done this to himself. Luckily, while there were wounds to the bone, there doesn’t appear to be damage to ligaments or major muscles. With lots of time and treatment they fully expect his physical wounds to heal but much longer before he is a fully trusting dog again.
We are seeking assistance in covering these unexpected vet bills which are expected to be around $3000 to $4000. We have filed police reports and reported through the local Animal Control. Any funds that are acquired in excess of his medical expenses will be donated to The Blue Water Area Humane Society.
Thank you in advance from Chester’s Family
