We need the funds for the Design and Development of our website:

www.movimientoindigena.com

We have a designer on board. However, we realize that this is a lengthy project and cannot be done on a volunteer basis. It requires the time and patience out of valued individuals in our organization. One of our members has offered her services at a low cost. Most of the website developers in town that we researched charge $5,000 or more for the work. She has kindly reduced her fee to $1,780. Also, the funds will help us pay for the hosting and domain, which has come out of our pockets for the past two years.

Funds are also needed for a laptop. This would be a communal laptop for the designers. The chief designer is limited to using her personal laptop, leaving assistants and rotating staff, who so often want to help her get the critical design work on La Zenka done, feeling helpless. This would also help the chief designer train the team so she can have a greatly earned and needed break while being assured that the rest of the team can make some progress design-wise, hopefully using that new laptop.

Here is a break down on how funds will be utilized:

Mac laptop $1700

Internet $500 year

Design $780

Development $1000

Domain $20/year

Hosting $200/year

Some of our perks include: a copy of our newspaper La Zenka, Coloring My Indígena (coloring book by Itzy Bitsy Design), Pinole (an Indigenous corn meal from Mexico), a hand woven bag from Guatemala, and a basket with fair trade coffee, Indigenous soap, Mexican chocolate.

The project is valuable because it contains the Indigenous voices of many cultures around the world, issues that need to be heard, and how we can communicate with each other and share their ideas.

We have successfully involved the community through our hard copy project La Zenka which is published three times a year and is distributed in the five boroughs of New York City and, more recently, in Bolivia and Mexico.
We have placed issues in main central libraries around New York City in Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island libraries, even at El Museo de Antropología in Mexico City.

We have also attracted many people through our cultural events, held annually and free of charge around NYC. We also offer identity workshops locally, but would like to expand them to other parts of the country. Our website could help us make these connections to other individuals and organizations interested in learning more about our work. Please feel free to share with your friends! We kindly appreciate your help!
