I was always told by dentists that I 'need' braces because of a few crooked teeth. I never took them seriously. They just want to make a bunch of money off me, right? How important is it to have pretty teeth, really? So, obviously I never bothered, until now. I was recently shown an x-ray of my TMJ joint (where the bottom jaw meets the top jaw). I saw that about 30% of the bone (that used to make the joint) is just gone! No one had ever mentioned that my crowded teeth could cause damage to my jaw!
It was explained that the uneven crowding of my teeth was putting extra pressure on one side of my jaw, causing the bones to grind together when ever I move my jaw. I will never be able to repair the existing damage, but braces can relieve the pressure and stop more damage from happening. I opted to get the cheapest, most uncomfortable braces available, but the bill will still be over $6,000 in total.
I don't expect anyone would be into paying for my braces and appliances (I don't really know what these are, and they sound painful. The dentist says that they are needed to make the braces work properly). I am hoping that I can find a lot of people who are willing to put a couple dollars to help. Maybe find someone that is willing to pay for me to be in pain for a couple years? (I won't be offended if that is your reason for donating)
Obviously loosing some of the bone in my jaw can cause issues any time the jaw is used. Until my treatment is completed, this will also continue to cause more damage. Unfortunately, I live in an area where most employers are call centers. Basically, I talk for a living and this means I make the damage worst, just by going to work. If I don't stop the damage, I will eventually be unable to work (talk) or chew.
I don't have the best job, it pays a bit above minimum wage, and has no health/dental benefits. I am willing to cut out every unnecessary expense to pay for as much of the braces as possible, but I don't think I can do it alone. Every dollar helps get me closer to paying for the braces.
Some day I hope to start a family and I want to be able to speak to my child/children (maybe grandchildren someday) and enjoy a normal meal with them and not be in pain or have a jaw that gets locked open.
I would like to thank everyone that can give (even if it is just a dollar) or can spread the word to others. I understand if you don't have extra money to help me, but helping me find others to help is just as important! A moment of your time and energy can be worth the world to me. Thank you all!
