Help Let's Be Well Red, a Brown University initiative, Combat Anemia in India!

LBWR combats anemia in India by distributing iron-rich bars. But our production cannot keep up with demand! So we need new machinery to increase bar production.

Let's Be Well RED was started for one reason: to combat anemia in India. As a thalassemia minor, Rajvi has a low level of iron in her blood and thus, hearing about the millions of people in India (75% of the Indian population) that were suffering from anemia just as she did, made her think of what she could do. So as a college junior, she started Let's Be Well RED, an initiative that makes iron-rich nutritional bars and works with high school students to spread awareness about this important condition that deprives the body of energy, hindering any kind of mental or physical activity. Because GudNeSs, our nutritional bar, provides children with the daily necessary amount of iron to be healthy in a natural way, we can help children with a nutritional supplement that will help them have enough energy to concentrate in class or play with their friends. Without a natural source of iron, parts of our body is deprived of oxygen!!

In the past year, we have come up with a nutritious, yummy and affordable nutritional bar, sold over 30,000 bars and have recruited 96 high school students in Mumbai that talk to other students in other schools about iron deficiency anemia.

We have received great support from different schools in Mumbai and the demand for the bars just keeps going up! However, we now have one issue: our production cannot keep up with the demand. We have received demands from single customers of up to 20,000 bars per month and currently, we can only make 5,000 bars per day. Additionally, as we continue to work in Mumbai, we now have other college volunteers working in the state of Gujarat too, making our demand even larger.

However, Rajvi's dream is to combat anemia and be able to make the solution available to everyone in India. The more bars we produce, the more we can subsidize and the more lives we can save from anemia.

The solution? Expand our production. We need a new packaging machine and a new production machine that will help us produce more bars in India. The production machine will help us produce 25,000 bars per day and the packaging machine will help us package 15,200 bars per day. So with these two machines we'll be able to help up to 7 times more people than before!

If we are able to produce more bars, we'll be able to help more anemic children and as result improving their lifestyle. We'll be able to help them be healthy enough to play with friends, finish high school and we'll be able to help other anemic family members all over India have enough energy to provide for them.

This machinery is however very expensive, the packaging machine costing $10,000 and the production machine $8,000, but any contribution to our cause is huge. Any amount can help us get much closer to our dream.
