My name is Jonathan Smith, and as many millions of people across the world, my heart was broken just two short months ago when a man entered an elementary school and viciously killed 20 young schoolchildren and 6 innocent teachers. If we look back on recent history, however, we find that these heinous crimes are, sadly, becoming more and more common.
Each school shooting situation strikes a little closer to home for me as I have many family members that are teachers or principles in schools across the country. My own mother was a teacher for over thirty years.
My dream is to make an instantaneous communication system, called Save1, for our schools that will allow teachers or any staff member to be able to, at the touch of a button, send the entire school into lockdown and alert the entire staff by way of a silent alarm of a problem should one arise. It will allow principals and security teams to know exactly where problems are and how serious they may be.
With the Save1 network, threats in our schools can be, if not nearly eliminated, drastically cut and seriously challenged. It can bring instant response to any situation that may arise in our schools.
Do we want another Newtown, Connecticut?
We owe it to our children to provide a safe place to develop their bright futures. No one wants to hear with broken hearts the next sad story of a Virginia Tech or Newton, Connecticut massacre.
Will you help me make our schools a safe place that is free of violence and crime? The least I ask is to give one (dollar) to save one (child) - that one child could be yours. If you can't help financially please help by spreading the word to all those that you know. I thank you and our children thank you.
