Mitochondrial Disease Strikes...

Help us raise funds for a former co-worker!

Jeremy Dickinson left Rentapen and was attending classes to receive his degree in Physical Therapy in September 2012.  He was already a certified personal trainer and loved working out and helping others get stronger.

Then he started getting muscle cramps that were so bad he was bruising.  Annoying muscle twitches and debilitating headaches.  After many doctors visits he was diagnosed with Mitochondrial Disease.  The first and only line of treatment for this disease, mega doses of vitamins:

Within a few months he was unable to work or attend school .  He now uses a walker and wheelchair and his wife has become his caretaker.

(See the updates.  Follow his progress.)

We all were losing all hope of any recovery.  We were facing a slow decline in function and an increase in pain.  On bad days, Jeremy was barely able to speak or lift an arm.

Hope seeped into our hearts when a gift of a massage appointment was canceled and subsequently brought him to an Acupuncturist who also practices a newer technique that has been shown to work miraculously in some chronic pain patients.

Learn more about the treatment.

With the first treatment, Jeremy had a slight reduction in pain.  At the second treatment, Jeremy was able to use his walker to get from the office to the car.  On the third treatment, Jeremy was able to walk from the disabled parking spot into Walmart's doors to the motorized chairs with only using his wife's shoulder for balance!  THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE IMPROVEMENT!

Though the improvements only last a few hours, we are told that with each treatment the improvements will be more dramatic and last longer.  There are no guarantees, but there is a good possibility Jeremy could become able again and only need monthly treatments to maintain a pain-free life!

To start he need 3 treatments a week.

(see the updates.  Follow his progress.)

What is Mito Disease?

Jeremy has received an unconfirmed diagnosis of Mitochondrial Disease from his team of doctors.

Mitochondria are the energy systems in each cell of our body.  They take the oxygen and food and make energy so our cells can do what they do.  When the Mitochondria stop making energy, the cells struggle and then die.

There are many diseases that have been identified as Mito Diseases including:  Alzheimers, Muscular Distrophy, Leighs Disease, and Lou Gehrigs Disease.

What We Need & What You Get

Jeremy is disabled and can't work.  He hasn't yet received disability help.  He can not pay for any treatments not covered by insurance.  The one treatment that has given us hope for his return to a productive life is this Alternative NRC treatment.  Neurological Relief Center Treatment provided by Dr. Ward at The Chinese Medical Center in Waukesha.

We are seeking funds for 30 treatments.  Though this won't cure him, there is evidence that the symptoms will be relieved so greatly that he will be able to return to work and school!  Treatments are $75 each.   Even if we don't reach our money goal, any amount of funds will help pay for some treatments to relieve the PAIN and increase his ability.

See this video that shows him with and without treatment effects.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GALtSkVYwy0

If we greatly exceed our goal, we will buy him a bed!

Jeremy says, "I am married, my wife and I are close.  I don't want to be caged off in a hopital bed.  If we had a Temperpedic it would allow her and I to still be close to each other at night.  That is important to us."  So any extra funding will go toward a Temperpedic bed.

We have created a Keep Calm and Give Back T-shirt and wrist band.  A donation of $30 or more and we will send you both.  A donation of $10 and we will send you the wristband and your name will be added to the wall of donors posted at Sunset Bowl in Waukesha, WI (a sponsor).

Neither Social Security nor Veterans Administraion have stepped in to help with an income for Jeremy.  So we would like to raise as much as we can to help support him and his family until he recieves financial assistance or can return to earning a living.

The Impact

At the same time we are raising funds for Jeremy, we are working to spread the word about Mitochondrial Disease.  We also hope to demonstrate that Alternative Therapies can provide much needed relief and aide  and should be covered by insurance!
Rentapen Inc., is sponsoring fundraisers and publicity and education.
We are conducting several on-the-ground fundraisers to help Jeremy and his family.  Join us at Sunset Bowl in Waukesha, WI, on June 29th, 2013, at 2 pm for a bowling tournament.  The second fundraiser will be a volleyball tournament on July 27th at Sunset Bowl.  The third will be during Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week On October 22nd, 2013.

We have enlisted the help of a woman who has great integrity and has conducted many fundraisers for those in need without taking a cent herself.
