Stuff Redux Needs You

Stuff Redux is a creative reuse center in Richmond. We promote creativity, art, environmental sustainability, education, and community engagement in Richmond through the collection and redistribution of traditionally discarded materials.

Have you ever thrown away an item that deep down you know could be reused? Extra ribbon, old wire, excess tile, scrap wood…

Every year tons of materials head to landfills – but many of these items are not trash. Often, these materials can be reused in projects ranging from kids crafts to home improvement. Creative reuse centers in over 100 cities across the US like Portland, OR and Durham, NC help to decrease the steady flow of materials to our landfills by collecting and redistributing items to artists, teachers, assisted living homes, summer camps and community members. They offer programing that educates and promotes reuse and creativity.

Inspired by these successful models, Stuff Redux seeks to bring this important movement to Richmond, VA.

Thanks to support from MCVPhysicians, VCUarts, and tireless volunteers, we are already up and running!  We have a storefront that has been donated by MCVPhysicians. We opened our doors on February 22nd, 2013 at 1605 Rhoadmiller St! We accept materials donations from individuals and businesses. We sort and repackage these supplies and offer them to the public at extremely low cost. We like to think of it as a “less-than-a-dollar store.” We then use the revenue from the store to support workshops and classes on the creative potential of reuse aimed at youth and adults.

What we do:

  • Provide affordable materials for creative projects
  • Offer low-cost and free educational workshops
  • Accept donations of clean, reusable supplies
  • Inspire creative and sustainable practice throughout the Richmond community
  • Reduce waste and strengthen the environment

We have already saved almost 2,000 lbs. from the landfill! We have also been busy hosting and planning educational events. We were part of Richmond Inlight, sustainRVA, the Fox Elementary Fall Festival, the Binford Middle School Bash, First Friday at Gallery5, and hosted printing and sewing workshops with Girl Scout troops and the VCU NAEA Student Chapter. In the coming months we have workshops planned with Studio 23, Richmond Young Writers, and the Visual Arts Center.

We need your help to keep these awesome programs going! Please donate to this campaign and ensure that Stuff Redux will be a successful and sustainable Richmond institution.

What We Need & What You Get:

We are seeking $4,000 to support the first year operations of Stuff Redux. Your generous donation will fund:

  • 501c3 fees (almost $900!)
  • Promotional costs (postage, printed pamphlets, advertisements, invitations)
  • Infrastructural supplies (We are going to need tools to provide the best and most effective workshops, as well as office equipment to keep our store running smoothly)
  • Consultant fees (taxes, taxes, taxes)
  • Web hosting

If you donate, Stuff Redux will give you STUFF. And lucky you… because Stuff Redux is creative and crafty to the core! Check it out. We are offering amazing reusable bags made from hand printed reused materials, paper and fabric flower bouquets, specially packaged crafting starter kits complete with crafting recipes, and for some truly special donors we will offer our eco-art birthday party package!

The Impact:

Our vision is to be a home for Richmond’s creative population and a nexus for ideas and community supported projects.  We are passionate about reuse because it represents a partnership between environmental stewardship and art. With your support Stuff Redux will become a Richmond institution for generations to come.

We have worked hard to build the foundation for this project, please help us make it a success!
