My name is Paul Wagner. I am a music educator and a member of the Badass Teacher Association. Recently I won a scholarship to attend Netroots Nation in Detroit this summer. The scholarship provides my registration and hotel room, but nothing else.
At Netroots Nation I will be able to learn new ways to continue my activism as I fight for public schools and teachers across the country. Other scholarship winners have gone on to found and run PACs, and hold elected office.
As a part time teacher, I get paid by days worked. In past schools I've taught at, they would allow me to file for unemployment benefits over the summer. However, this particular school will not allow that. Which means that I will have very little left after my last paycheck for the transportation needed to get to Detroit, as well as meals and other expenses.
So, what will this money be used for?
1. Gas-it's a 5 hour drive to Detroit.
3. Other incidental expenses.
Of course there may be money left over. That money will be used to purchase needed classroom supplies for my students such as mallets and music. So the more you give, the more students you can help.
