Hadoken started as a collection of musicians five years ago at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. With Will Theis and David Duran spearheading the progress of the band, things shifted and changed upon forming the true formation of this band around 2008. Like many bands we had humble beginnings playing in basements and local shows, while also discovering who we now are as a band. We have always done things independently until now, while also building upon the foundation of each other's styles and backgrounds. After the completely independent first album, "The Ancient Machine" we began to truly develop as a band and garner a sound true to our intentions and interests.
We began to start playing with fantastic bands such as Caspian, Irepress and others often around the time we released our second album "Luminary" in 2010. Our sound was now more realized and together. With every step we took, we began to grow and really understand our craft. The album was a success, but we thought we could do better. There was more to our sound that was still a mystery, lost in translation.
The Immediate Past and The Future
Soon after the completion of "Luminary" we began work on our third album. We took what we learned from the past two albums and slowly enhanced our techniques and songwriting abilities during our practices. We have written four songs over the past two years, which we have fine tuned and tweaked. The combination of these songs will make a full length album clocking in at over fifty minutes.
We have teamed up with Kenny Eaton over at Mystery Ton Studios in Maryland for the production of this album. It has been nothing but an amazing experience for us working with him and we feel that he understands our sound in ways we never saw before. We admire his expertise and saw how pieces of our album have already come together in such blissful ways. His dedication to this album has already fueled our collective passion for the quality of this album and we know with his help we can bring you an album that is truly remarkable.
What We Are Asking For
So far the album is about half way done, with the drums (with side percussion) and two guitars already tracked. We used money from shows and merch to pay for what we have already completed.
We are asking for $3,000 to complete our album.
What's left is the violin tracks including the double bass, acoustic violin, viola, and cello all performed by Alex Wagner with Will Theis recording his guitar parts, bass guitar, trombone/cornet, and vocoder.
This additional recording will cost us roughly between $1000 to $1,500 to complete with mixing as well.
We will also need to mix the album once it is done recording which will be around $600.
Finally if we reach our goal we will need to have our album mastered.
