Graphic Novel based on interview with Noam Chomsky

Funding a graphic novel based on an interview with Professor and public intellectual Noam Chomsky

Who we are!

Luke Radl is a full-time freelance artist and designer for web and print, and was recently exhibited at Drawing Conclusions: The Editorial Cartoon.  His work has appeared in Dark Horse Comics, Cartoon Movement, Citizen Radio, and We're Not Broke. In 2011 he participated in Occupy Boston and Occupy Wall Street, and in 2012 he covered the NATO protests in the graphic report "Chicago is My Kind of Town".  He attended the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in 2006.

Jeffrey Wilson received his MA in Anthropology from Columbia University where he examined how ethnographic fieldwork could be written in graphic novel form.  Recently he interviewed comic book journalist Joe Sacco.  It was written in comic book form and  and published in Geographical Review.  He is currently a PhD student in Human Geography at the University of Arizona.

We are working on a Graphic Novel based on an interview with Noam Chomsky—and we need your help!!

The graphic novel is based off an interview Jeffrey conducted with Noam Chomsky in the summer of 2012. Chomsky is well know for being generous with his time and granting numerous interviews over the years. Despite the volumes of Chomsky related material available, few publications have researched and elaborated on the many references and examples that Chomsky employs.  The purpose of this graphic novel is to do just that!  We take the historical examples used and give them a depth that might otherwise be glossed over. For example, when Chomsky mentioned the Free Speech Movement of the 60’s during the interview, we do the research and take you back to that time period so it is not just a passing reference but a real and dynamic moment.  This work is important because it will offer not only an introduction to the thoughts and insights of Chomsky but the graphic novel form allows us to layer information and move the reader through time and space in unique ways. With your help we intend to create a book that is both accessible to a wide range of readers and insightful!  No easy task, but we are up for the challenge!

**Book will be released by AK Press in the Fall of 2014

Our Plan and your help

We need 15K to bring this important project into the world. This will go to both the writer and illustrator.  The money will help us work nearly full time on the graphic novel for the next 6-8 months. Any money we can raise beyond 15K the better, in that it will allow us to dedicate 100% of our time to the project.  It will also allow us to create a dynamic and interactive web version of the comic.  Both of us have successfully published so we know exactly what it takes to bring such a project into the world.  While the funds we raise are crucial you can also help out by spreading the word and letting interested friends and family know about the book.   Keep up with us on Twitter and Facebook. Feel free to email us with any questions.  And thanks again for taking time to read this!
