The campaign ended!! Once again, thank you so much for sharing so much with this project!!

I believe that many of you knew the situation in Fukushima is very complicated. There are so many difficulties on many levels, and it's hard to find solutions for them. I am aware that what I can do to help this situation is really small. But, even so... since I could meet these shining individuals in Fukushima, who have never given up their lives and are finding their own unique way to move forward, AND their music (this has been a really unexpected gift!!), my idea for this documentary film has grown in such extraordinary ways!! No matter where you live in the Earth, we all need to deal with difficulties in life. Of course me too! When I came to know these people in Fukushima, I resonated deeply with their stories, and felt they were really worth sharing with people all around the planet!! After I actually met them in person, in November 2013, I felt even much more so! Once again, Thank you so much for your kind support for the IndieGoGo campaign!! I am doing my best to make this film, and will let you know once it is complete!! Love to y'all!!!!!!!

Here is the trailer vol.1!!!

I just had wonderful time in Fukushima and made the first trailer!!!! PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT!!! I need to go back to Fukushima next Spring to complete this film!! ^ - ^

Hello! I'm Toko, a photographer/documentary filmmaker/ visual artist/musician. On March 11, 2011, I was shocked by news of multiple disasters occurring in my native country of Japan. Since then,  I've been trying to find ways to be supportive of the children who survived the disasters. I've been hearing many kids who live close to the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant disaster area say something like, "There is much radiation in Fukushima. But we are NOT the radiation, and not contagious. Please don’t discriminate against us. Please know much about us in Fukushima!"  Their voices inspired me to make a documentary about the many fascinating people who still live there! So my artist friends and I started this project together!

To complete this film, we need to make 2 more trips to Japan (The end of November 2013 and April / May 2014), and need financial support to continue.  We received a fiscal sponsorship from a non-profit organization called From the Heart Productions. With their support, I decided to do this campaign.
The donations are all tax deductible
. Thanks to our sponsor!

We actually need more than $20,000 to complete this film, but we decided to set our goal at a more humble amount – $10,000.

Help dispel ignorance about the situation in Fukushima that has made kids suffer discrimination

---  I'm hearing about many mental difficulties among kids in Fukushima, resulting from bullying (and cyber-bullying). This is sad and irrational, but ignorance and fear are powerful motivators. I think that knowing more about the actual people in Fukushima might awaken healthy thoughts, truth, and empathy inside each one of us, and help to connect people. Perhaps it might also encourage us to ask ourselves some fundamental questions about our own humanity.

Help make a better change for the future, for people in Fukushima and also for all of us on this planet

---  Their stories have made me re-think the situation in Fukushima, its people, and life happiness. They want you to know their stories and think about them for yourself - what we can do to nurture a healthier future?

You can help make this change together!

SO! We arranged unique perks!

Yoshimitsu Takuki:  Awarded writer / Musician. Born in Fukushima, he experienced the nuclear power plant accident from his home, in a village close to the power plant. Through his book, he sent messages from Fukushima to young people, "Please think for yourself, to make this a better place to live."

Masai Kazami:  Founder of Baku-Genjin Village/ Musician. 1n 1970's, he made a self-sufficient commune in Fukushima. Still now, there is no infrastructure in the village. They have used solar power to generate electricity. Getting water from mountain stream. Instead of taking a shower, they jump into river. Farming and playing music with friends, they have learned to live simply and enjoy life, until the day of the accident. Now, he is the only person who still remains in the village close to the power plant.

Ai Otsuka:   When she was her 20’s, she moved to the village Mr. Kazami made. She built her own home by herself and developed her family. She lived peacefully in that setting with her kids and husband, until the nuclear accident. Now, she has escaped to a city in southern Japan, and she’s opened a shelter for kids in Fukushima.

Akihiro Yoshikawa:  Former TEPCO worker. He experienced the accident inside the power plant and has worked hard in the frontline for almost two years. Now, he’s left TEPCO, and founded an organization, "Appreciate FUKUSHIMA Workers", in order to support the actual workers in the plant. He thought, "In this kind of difficult working situation, eventually all the experienced workers leave and nobody wants to work inside this power plant. It causes an even bigger problem." He has stood up to make a better change in this situation.

Kids in the Yamakiya Taiko Drum Club:   The kids in the Yamakiya Drum Club of Fukushima were forced into exile after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident. Without a rehearsal space, it was very difficult for them to continue making their thrilling music with those big beautiful drums. But, the local people thought, "You know, in these difficult conditions, it's even more important for these kids to continue making their music!" So, the locals joined together to support the club. Their taiko drum sounds are full of fire that pump life power through the heart and soul!

Kids in the Haramachi Daiichi Junior High School Brass Band Club:  The kids in the Haramachi Daiichi Junior High School Brass Band Club were also forced to evacuate the city. One year after the accident, the government reopened the city, and the kids reconvened in April 2012, to practice for the annual National Junior High Brass Brand Competition in Japan. The band had only 6 months to prepare, but they didn't give up. They won the national competition in October 2012. Many people were encouraged by their performance and the power of music.
