Our Story

My name is Cathy Pearson and I have been making this film since Oct 2009 in the role of producer/director. I first met John G Morris in Paris in a serendipitous meeting in the lovely Chez Janou Restaurant in Le Marais district, John's local neighborhood. He was 92 years old at the time. He told me stories about his times with Alfred Hitchcock, Marlene Dietrich, Robert Capa, Earnest Hemingway  and Henri Cartier Bresson to name but a few of his peers. But what really struck me about John was how informed he was about the world today and how interested he is in so many current affairs, I am sure this is what keeps him so youthful and energetic. I read his professional memoir "Get the Picture" and then asked his permission to make a film about his life. He agreed and this is what is now unfolding. The film includes contributions from some of the worlds most renowned names in photography and journalism including Marc Riboud, Martine Franck, Paulo Pellegrin, Stanley Greene, Don McCullin, Christiane Amanpour, Yann Arthus Bertrand, Peter Turnley and New York Times staff photographers Chester Higgins Jr and Librado Romero and many at the Magnum Photo Agency.

Please join me on this incredible creative journey, through the world of photojournalism, history, humanity and time and become a part of the community involved in getting this film made and documenting an important part of our world history.

The Impact

I hope that this film will inspire people to see and understand and appreciate our world through images. John Morris has often been referred to as a walking history library, but he is also a man ahead of his time. He has an important legacy to leave behind. He is probably the last living journalist involved in the coverage of World War 2's D Day and through the people he has known he has many first hand tales to share of how these courageous photojournalists covered the events and wars of our last 70 years and the impact this has had on our collective world view. This is a story of humanity and a search for peace in our world. This film will get made, we are almost there, but we require further funding to get it completed to the highest standard possible and for John to benefit from it during his life time.

What We Need & What You Get

We need $25,000.00 to complete this film. The money will be spent on the hire of the edit suite and editor to complete the final cut, to pay for some archival material rights, music orchestration and some final post production costs including sound mix and color correction. If we don't reach the final goal I will have to reduce the use of archival material and defer some fees. If we exceed our goal I will be in a position to pay some of the fees that have already been deferred to get it thus far, and that would be amazing as the creative team have worked so hard and offered so much of their time and passion to get the project to this stage. To date we have been funded by The Irish Film Board and RTE (Ireland's national broadcaster) who have made a pre-sale for the transmission of this documentary for Dec 2012.  Lets get this film on the world wide film festival circuit before that.

There are some pretty great rewards and perks if you choose to get involved: ever wanted to be an extra on a movie set of an Oscar winning production company's next film? Here's your opportunity and you get the usual daily rate of pay for being a movie extra (you must be available during the shooting schedule). Know anyone who would like to gain a work experience placement on a film set or in the production office of an Oscar winning production company's next film (must be 18 or over & be available during pre-production and/or shooting schedule), in just 2 weeks they can learn a lot and make many contacts for their future career. Plus we are offering downloads of the movie, posters, CD's of original music score of the film, signed memoir of John G Morris' book, invitations to the premiere and party afterwards, you could even become a named associate film producer. You could even use this platform and film to promote your brand or association and become an Executive Producer and get included in promotional material for the film, that is a lot of exposure for only $5000 as we already have a TV transmission time sold.
