Get The Can Van Rolling

(Literally!) Help us bring our business to small local brewers.

(Check out new videos in our Updates tab!)

Meet The Can Van

The Can Van is a mobile canning service for craft breweries. We can good beer for good people! We are raising money to buy the trailer and truck that will allow us to transport our canning equipment, which will make our business truly mobile. The Can Van is based out of San Francisco, CA and we plan to begin canning for area breweries in January, 2012.

Our company was founded by five friends who met at Presidio Graduate School in the Sustainable Management MBA program: Jenn Coyle, Lindsey Herrema, Kate Drane, Jake Blackshear, and Heath Cox. We raised money from our friends and family to fund the business while we planned our operations, approached customers, and ordered our canning equipment.

Now we need just a little bit more funds to get a trailer, customize it with everything we need, and secure a truck to pull it. This is why we're reaching out to you, to help us keep the can van rolling!

Jake, Jenn, Kate, Heath, and Lindsey love beer in cans!

The Impact of The Can Van

The Can Van makes it easier for small, local breweries to can their beer, which can have a real impact. The majority of craft beers are currently available only in bottles or kegs, but cans are becoming a popular choice among brewers because cans offer advantages over bottles in significant ways. Cans are lighter than bottles and easier to stack, so they're more efficient to ship. They keep beer fresher longer, and they are the most recycled beverage container in the US.  Cans are also preferable in certain places like airplanes, camping or the pool. For breweries, offering their product in cans opens up broader markets. For you as a consumer, it means that you can enjoy your favorite craft beers anywhere, anytime.

Craft beer in a can makes an afternoon at the park even more refreshing!

Many small breweries don't have the resources or space to purchase their own canning equipment. The Can Van is based on a collaborative consumption model that allows many breweries to use the same equipment. The Can Van brings the canning equipment to the breweries, allowing them to save time and money. With one less packaging worry, brewers can focus on what they do best, making great beer.

Our market research included the arduous task of visiting numerous local breweries.

Where The Money Will Go

The $10,000 we raise will roughly break down like this:

  • $5000 - 12' cargo trailer
  • $2000 - interior and exterior customization, like storage, waterproof lining, and our logo on the outside
  • $3000 - down payment for a pickup truck to pull the trailer!

If we don't reach our goal, all the money raised will still go towards the trailer and truck. Whatever happens, you can know that when you see The Can Van rolling into your favorite brewery or you enjoy a new craft beer in a can, that you helped make it happen! Of course, starting a business is expensive. If we do reach our goal, you can still contribute more! In fact, we would love it, and it would help us out immensely in our formative months.
