Welcome to Dashboards to Desktops.com.  Where the sculpted decorative dashboard is quickly and easily converted into functional accessible useful and safely viewable desktop space!

D2D is a versatile new tool for any vehicle and useful for everyone!  And is particularly useful for Contractors, Realtors, Cabbies, Inspectors, Chauffeurs, Truckers, or any vehicle based business!  Or for those on the go!

D2D accommodates ALL gadgetry!  The size gadgetry or quantity of gadgetry is not limited by clamps or linkage or anything!  D2D is platform based allowing for everything, gadgetry and more!

D2D is especially pleasurable to use for the other office!  To just get away and sit comfortably in your vehicle and get it done anywhere and at anytime.  Day or night!

D2D is proximity adjustable and can be placed anywhere across the dashboard span along the windshield, depending on the dashboard, and can be used by either the driver or the passenger.  And the passenger fits comfortably depending on the desktop size ordered and the vehicle.  D2D is also exceptional to use on the road trips.

D2D takes just a second to place over the dashboard!  (Link to short 45 second D2D intro vid!)

D2D removes to the trunk or backseat in a second!  (Link to short 45 second D2D intro vid!)

D2D can be made to any size
 a
nd accommodates most all vehicles!

D2D sizes and finishes are based on your selections and your vehicle parameters.
We make the components to match your vehicle and size selections.  Order "any" size desktop and components and specify vehicle parameters at our store.  Finishes are optional.  You can get it "raw" or "well" done!  And the finishes are marked (50)% off at this time!

D2D does not take up the passenger seat
like the linkage based police vehicle type or the bulky plastic molded "milk crate" type secured by the seat belt and completely occupying the passenger seat with all the bulk.  These types working and viewing desk area's are uncomfortably "low" and more uncomfortably "way" off to the side.

D2D driving view is unfettered (link to 3 cam view short vid) by the gadgetry and the gadgetry view and proximity is convenient and comfortable!  (See print below pictures for more explanation on this very important aspect!)

The wait is over!  Embrace the wait!  Don't let the traffic delay steal any more of your valuable time!  Don't be forced to sit and wait at Railroad Crossings and Trains, or Traffic Jams, or Draw Bridges and Boats, or Drive Thru's, or for Traffic Lights to cycle, And then More Traffic, Buses, Carpools, Picking up, Dropping off, ect...  Don't wait anymore!  And then Frust Wait!  Get it on with D2D!  No more wasted time! Get your vehicle connected with D2D! Welcome the Wait With D2D!  Get CC'D and Hands Free'D with D2D 2Day!

We stand behind our D2D 100%!  And sit behind it often too!  Satisfaction Guaranteed!

Observations : Distracted Driving : Texting and Driving versus Desking and Driving.
D2D use is not necessarily associable to the
physically and visually distracting driving hazards associated with texting and driving resulting from the use of the smaller screened devices.  These distracted driving hazards are greatly reduced through the use of our D2D.  D2D
allows for larger gadgetry to be placed at a comfortable and easily viewable eye level elevation and viewing angle and viewing distance using the elevation of the vehicle dashboard.  The D2D proximity of gadgetry placement reduces the visual distracted driving hazards resulting from turning one's head sideways to view the gadgetry. D2D also reduces the physical distracted driving hazards to initially retrieve the gadgetry or to have to reach over to operate the gadgetry by its placement. Eyeball movement is the most physical exertion necessary to view the gadgetry. The gadgetry visual and physical exertions and associated distracted driving hazards are minimized and almost eliminated entirely by the D2D's placement and resultant gadget proximity.  D2D is unlike any other gadget holder for this aspect alone!

At stop lights the D2D equipped vehicle and driver frequently sees the light turn green before other drivers even if viewing the screen from the peripheral field of vision.  Oftentimes other drivers get caught at green lights gawking at the D2D equipped vehicle, causing horns to blow from others behind them as the D2D driver departs at the green light. Certain situations are more hazardous than others and common safety precautions should be followed.  We do not recommend for the gadgetry to be viewed while driving under any circumstances.  But if one were to drive with the gadgetry flipped open the driving field of vision is not obstructed by the D2D gadgetry whatsoever.

Safely Accessorizing D2D : Many Options : Many Accessories : The Connected Car!

There are many accessories available to make the D2D connected car safer.  The police in Farmers Branch Texas use a new device that will prevent officers from typing on their dashboard laptops once their vehicle exceeds 15 mph.  Every squad car in the department will be outfitted with an "Archangel II" product whereby keyboards will lock when the vehicle exceeds 15 mph to prevent accidents caused by distracted driving.  And voice activated computer operation software called the "Dragon" by Nuance is also an option.  There are a plethora of "connected car" accessories available and more coming to market every day!

We use the "arc" mouse by microsoft which hugs the thigh comfortably and effectively with its arc' ness design utilizing the thigh as the mouse pad.  And we also simply velcro or bungee cord the keyboards directly onto the steering wheel as another option.  Or we also have used a slide out keyboard tray.  And another neat competitors product is the"Wheel Mate" by auto exec which is a smallish steering wheel mounted platform that is a nice size for the keyboards.  And or the mini keyboards also fit comfortably right on your lap.  D2D can be customized to partner with many gadgets for more safety and convenience!  The "connected car" has arrived!  And so has Dashboards to Desktops!

Please Drive Responsibly.  D2D is a tool. Tools can make life better if used responsibly.  D2D is as safe as the user. This is not a new concept.  This is a new application of an existing concept.  Police have been using similar for many years.

Thank you for your time.

We are exploring the Peter Polymer option of our Mighty Casey wood bat D2D campaign to see if both a “half off” price and weight reduction wood Impact things. IE: The Mighty Casey and his big wood hickory D2D bat is gonna sit this inning out with a bruised egostring. We got us a designated hitter on deck and he goes by the name of Polymer Peter. Peter is comin up from the minor league team the “apostles”. Peter is both quick and nimble weighing in at half of Casey’s girth’s both in cash and stash.

What do ya think? Please let us know. Casey still in the game. He just sitting out an inning or two till his bruised ego heals. The Mighty Casey is still chalk full of options. Polymer Peter has less options but can still drive the ball home no problem.

These Polymere Pete's D2D's same look same style!  And half the price and half the weight!  Finished too!  Goto our new Poly D2D campaign listed below!

We are hopeful that the polymer D2D will be a game changer!  The print listed below is based on the current wood D2D perks and campaign.  And of course is still and will always be available.  We love the wood!

Pictured below the Armada' 3D size for the deep dashboards! Passenger fits.

Side view of the Armada' 3D

Amount of contribution will vary by desktop size perk selections.

We have tried to make the indiegogo crowdfunding campaign introductory D to D pricing as affordable as possible.  In the "Millwork" business the finishes of the wood products oftentimes cost more than the millwork(ed) item itself.  For the IG D to D campaign we have reduced the finish costs by half (50)% of standard finish costs.  We do this in an effort to show appreciation to the IGCF crowd and to hopefully help to launch our D to D product line and maybe even sell a few desktops!  We can only afford to offer the finish discounts assuming that we sell a quantity of the desktops here within the IG campaign.

The costs as listed for the desktop and components also reflects the many laborious fabrication efforts.  First we have to slice up the stumps to (1)" plus thick slices.  Than we plane down the slices and then we have to cut and fit the various components and then sand them down to 100 Grit.  We also cut to radius the corners of the desktops and then we additionally round all the edges of the desktops and components (Arms, Forks, Blocks).  The Forks ends or tips and tops are also cut way back on an angle at the windshield to allow the suction cups and forks to interlock thoroughly.  This also keeps the wood of the forks well clear of the windshield glass.  And the fork tips tops also have recesses cut into them to house the suction cups bulbous back side protrusion for the interlockability scenario.  There are also many other layout and drilling countersinking screwing fastening and other anchoring efforts unseen.  The D to D is shipped cut to fit sanded to 100 Grit assembled and ready to install!  Finishes are optional!

Perks:

We will be adding Perks depending on marketability and other inputs.

The actual Desktop type Perks and Contribution amounts to be determined by going to our D to D store and placing your order by selecting size specifications, and, then also select the already marked down to half off finish options if you want us to finish. Please add (15)% international shipping (TBD)(Confirmed)

The "scaled down" perk has its own pickboxes at the store.  The bottom (3) pickboxes are for the scaled down perks only.

$35 Desktop and Components:

This $(35) perk amount would be for the smallest desktop and components available.  The $(35) perk amount is the starting pricing for the D to D.  Average price would be $(150) upto $(250) depending on finishes and other options.  Select Desktop and Components at our store and then, if desired, select the already marked down (50)% off all finishes options for the indiegogo CF'ers. Complete the order and select the "place and call" option for payment. Then bring that total dollar amount back here to indiegogo and insert that amount into the contribution block. Add (15)% for international shipping (TBD).

$50 Scaled Down Version Half Size :

The $(50) perk amount wood be for a Scaled down Rear View Mirror sized Desktop and Components:  Block Type.  Approxiamitly (4)" x (8)"overall sized block type D to D.  This perk offered for those that still want to support our campaign.  We will provide simple block stand and string to suspend. Select marked down (50)% off finishes as necessary.  $(50) on up.  Select just the bottom (3) "scaled down" pick boxes at our store & if finishes.  Complete the order and select the "place and call" option for payment. Then bring that total dollar amount back here to indiegogo and insert that amount into the contribution block.  Add (15)% for international shipping (TBD).

$75 Enterprising Desktop and Components:

Not sure about putting a desktop in your ride but still want in? We would surely appreciate it! Get a(the) smaller(est) size for display on a shelf. We can make more Trek "ish" or enterprise "ish" by locating the Tier or Standard Block and arm in the middle of the fork and desktop. And can also elongate the "warp drive" forks some. Desktop could be other shapes as well. Order like other and fill in special requests and considerations text blocks with design parameters changes. $(75) on up.  Complete the order and select the "place and call" option for payment. Then bring that total dollar amount back here to indiegogo and insert that amount into the contribution block.  Add (15)% for international shipping (TBD).  It is "worthy" of display.  Can be "moxied" up nicely with pencil rails too!  Shoot we can do about anything with em.

$5000 Mad Max(esque) X Country D to D Promotional Road Trip:

Can make one trip a month with (2) maybe upto (3) perks/passengers/trip. Perk to include fuel food hotel and a custom desktop, "if" we make it back'. Routes TBD. Might make many stops along the more scenic routes. Depends on contributors. Could also discuss distributorships along the road or other opportunities that could arise.

Desktops Perks Type will have our "shoe" logo branded/burned into the wood.

Goto http://www.shop.dashboardstodesktops.com/ store.  Complete the order process by selecting desktop size and component size, then select the finish options as necessary.  Please register at the D to D site and select the "print and call" option pick box to complete the odering process for your specific order at the D to D store site.  Then bring the total $ amount back to indiegogo and insert that number into the gogo contribution text box.  Specificationss on your Perk desktop selections will be processed and stored at the D to D store site until production and ultimate delivery. We just completely revamped our store and product line up and hope to have made the newly updated ordering process as user friendly and understandable as possible.  We hope to have covered most of the bases and options. This is a brand new product.  With brand new hills to climb.  There can be more specifications, just specify special requests in the special requests text blocks during the order process.

Biography:  Dashboards to Desktops.

We are a Florida state certified General Contractor CogentCMi.com who has been vehicular computing in my dumptruck since 2006. Then in 2012 we put the desktop in a car and people came out of the woodwork to ask about the setup. Just have to close the sale... and to do the marketing. Need a good Launch basically. The curiosity is there. Lots of people inquire on the street as I drive a car with the desktop. Just need to sell some desktops. And strategically need a large initial order such as a crowdfunding campaign could generate to get this D to D on the road adequately with a good solid footing. It went unnoticed in the dumptruck all those years as truck cabover sits up too high off the ground for people to see the desktop setup and the audience was limited. In the car they see it. They all see it! And they all ask about it!! I get stopped at lights all the time!

Goal for D to D with involvement in a Crowdfunding program and community.

We present for your vehicular efficiency Dashboards to Desktops.  This is an new application of an existing concept.  And we are here to present the D to D to the Crowdfunding community and the progressive contemporary atmosphere and audience, one willing to take a chance on us, and willing to receive a good solid product/desktop in return and possibly share in any successes derived from a successful Crowdfunding D to D campaign.  We believe that we have a good solid product here with the D to D.  Made in USA.  Guaranteed.

We come here to the "indiegogo" Crowdfunding arena to launch the Dashboards to Desktops product line up and to introduce it into the market with some "Crowdfunding Crowd" "umph".  This is a great idea and a great product.  I have personally used a similar desktop set up since 2006 in my cab over dump truck, pictured here within, and on one of the introductory videos. Last year we installed a desktop in a car, and ever since installing the desktop in the car, which gave a sizable audience increase, we have had people come out of the woodwork to inquire about the desktop while out and about cruising with the desktop.  Oftentimes people inquire when no gadgetry is on the desktop at all.  I throw the smart phone on it or camera or sandwich or grocery list most of the time... rather than using the passenger seat.  The new space created by the desktop is in good vehicular space underutilized wasted space otherwise.

We have completed most of the preliminary legwork.  Set up new shop to make the desktops.  Set up Website(s).  Made some Prototypes.  And still need to do some product development to make spacer templates and to fit the desktops to all the differing vehicles and owner parameters.  And especially need to promote and advertise and do marketing hopefully thru a Crowdfunding program and generally get some desktops out there on the streets.

Material Aquisitions:  The Heavy stuff.

We have the project strategically about all set ready to go to make the desktops.  Material costs are almost nothing.  Craigs list free stuff firewood or tree stumps is how we acquired materials thus far.   We go to the Craigs list posters yards and retrieve their already cut down to size to about 3' chunks of stumps.  Knuckles and Crotches of the stumps are the best!  We have also "heavily" modified an Air Conditioning/material lift by Genie and 4 x 4'd the hand cranked forklift device to roll across all terrains, grass, dirt, or sand.  We made new forks and added a counter weight system and redesigned the lift entirely removing lever arms and changing out the puny castors and such.  Now the lift is 4 wheel drive!  The stumps range in weight from about 500 lbs on upto 1000 lbs.  Goto craigs list link to see our lift posting http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/tls/3638494492.htmlLoading Raw Slabs to move to new Dashboards to Desktops shop!Loading Raw Slabs to move to new Dashboards to Desktops shop!

That's why the stumps sit in their yards after cutting the trees down.  They so heavy that the removal costs prohibits the removals once they cut em down.  They can't move the things without machinery.  And often times the motorized machinery cannot access the area to even retrieve the cut stumps.  It is almost an afterthought.  Than they list em on Craigs list under "free stuff" or similar to beholden onto us.  One mans trash is another's treasure!  And we just want the Big Ugly's.  We leave the small stuff!  Than we load em up and haul em out rawhide style to the shop where we slice up the stump chunks into 1 inch thick slivers which is green as can be, Ecologically Sound! Dashboards to Desktops Raw Materials Stump ChunksDashboards to Desktops Raw Materials Stump Chunks

Movie "Blade Runner" Wheeled Flying Police Vehicle Dashboard Screen Shot circa 1982Movie "Blade Runner" Wheeled Flying Police Vehicle Dashboard Screen Shot circa 1982

Comparison Analysis of the D to D to other similar product lines.

Police vehicles equipped with the linkage based desktop.  NOT "Blade Runner".  For starters these linkage based "police type" are very costly.  And require layout and drill of holes thru floorboards and then significant assembly's.  There are other less expensive linkage platform based devices as well but still the installation efforts are significant.  And also the viewing angle on these devices is both way to low and way off to the side.  Serious neck pains arise from "desking" with these types for extended periods.  And the linkage base limits desk size, no desk.

The suction cup clampish type devices mounted on the windshield.  The windshields are pretty far away to really view the device effectively.  And this type also obstructs the drivers view somewhat.  Removing the device from the clamp to answer or otherwise view or text into which is another distraction step.  The act of reaching out to the windshield oftentimes requires a stretch and to grab the device release it from the clamp and then re install in the windshield clamp after could also pose driver distractions.  And these devices are limited as to what size device they can hold.  Usually gps or smart phone is about it...

Then we come to the plastic milkcrate type that occupies the passenger seat with seat belt with all of its bulk.  First they look cheesy.  Secondly they are cheesy.  Thirdly they pose even more viewing angle issues.  Additionally they take up the passenger seat entirely.   And they aren't cheap.  They look cheap but they can cost over $200 easy depending.

Lastly we have the steering wheel platform type that hooks over the steering wheel.  These are nice units all things considered.  Except you can't drive with em installed.  And they also have a relatively limited desk area depth wise.  Only about $20 bucks and worth every penny.

And Now the D to D.... Well for starters we are a platformed based desktop type similar in core only to the competitor's steering wheel platform type, only difference is the D to D goes over the dashboard and ours has more desk area depending on D to D size ordered.  The D to D looks far better than all of the above mentioned with the wood grains.  The D to D only takes a few seconds to install with the placing of the already cut to fit tried and true desktop and suction cups placed above the desktop and in front of the desktop in between the windshield and desktop.

The Future :  D to D ~ Immediate ~ Crowdfunding Future.

It might be considered presumptuous of us at this time but... If this first wood based D to D Crowdfunding campaign is successful than we will reintroduce the D to D on another Crowdfunding campaign, one based on the injection molded plastic type immediately following the D to D wood campaign.  Injection molded components, Tier Blocks, Forks, Arms, and Desktops could cut costs and increase production rates considerably.

If both the wood and injection mold D to D Crowdfunding Campaigns are successful we will purchase a cnc machine to additionally incorporate metals and other materials into the D to D product line up. Which would be a third Crowdfunding Campaign? Third time is the charm.

"Presumptuous perhaps but I actually use this product every day.  Since 2006". DMW

The major challenge would be fitting the desktops to the vehicles effectively. While we are certain that the desktops and components would reasonably fit most all vehicles, without much fanfare, it ain't rockets, finding the vehicles to make the first spacer(s) templates and other templates would be the only challenge. We would physically locate the same as the ordered desktop vehicle to confirm fit prior to making the desktop. As there are so many vehicles. And so many owners. Each will have different requirements. Some vehicles will not accept desktops. Jeeps will not easily as they have a real short 4" dashboard. New VW Beetles dashboards are very desktop friendly. Old VW Beetles, on the other hand, with their stubby little dashboards, are not desktop friendly. Eventually desktop templates will be made for all off the different vehicles. Owner parameters or desktop requirements can change without affecting vehicle initial templates.

To resolve the above mentioned challenge: The new Dashboards to Desktops/Cogent CMi shop is located in the Oppa Locka junk yard area of South Florida, the junkyard capital of the Southeast!  We will physically locate the vehicles at the junk yards and or other places like used car lots and go and make the initial spacer templates and others as necessary to make the desktops and components depending on the vehicular requirements and owner parameters. There are about 30 junk yards in the immediate area with most all vehicle windshields and dashboards in tact. The perfect models. There are also plenty of used car lots in the immediate area as a fail safe.

Risks: None. Manufacturing production wise. As far as making desktops and bringing it all together to fulfill the crowdfunder type backers rewards. Can provide the desktops in enough numbers to meet the demand. Supply is endless too.

Risks post desktop acquisition: Would be those that use electronic devices flipped up or placed up and viewing their screen while driving with the desktop. It is a bit of a gun. You can have a loaded gun so to speak. And if you aren't careful with the desktop and that which is on the desktop and viewed while driving you can shoot yourself in the foot or worse, others. Disclaimers will be all over the desktops. Not to be used while driving typical. This is not a new concept. Just a new application of concept. Police have used the linkage based setup for many years.

Why do police have similar setups? For vehicular efficiency to enable them to give us tickets quicker and to be the best they can be.

And they now offer new product called archangel 2 usb device http://www.srrsllc.biz/ motion sensor device to turn off the screen.

Once D to D is out on the street the act of having the desktop in the vehicle can cause drivers to become distracted with their screened devices if viewing while driving. It is not the desktop itself that would be distracting. But that which is put on top of the desktop. And weather it is flipped open or otherwise propped up and then weather it is being viewed by the driver while driving. You can have device flipped open and not look at it. The driving view is not obstructed if device is open or up. The roof pillars and pass side view mirror and driver side view mirror take up more view. The passenger door mirror is completely within the line of vision. As is everything else pretty much. Dashboard controls are more obstructed view wise than anything by the desktop. And how often do we need to access vehicle dashboard controls. Usually the desktops closest edge ends up about 6" away from the face of the dashboards. Whatever the Desktopper prefers.

It is the D to D belief that the Desktop as placed in the vehicle is a tool of convenience. And also increases personal efficiency by its placement. Could even make driving safer by placement of devices on desktop in easily accessible space to retrieve the device quickly and safely without reaching over or digging out of purse or pocket. And not just for computing or other screened effort but generally increases overall personal efficiency as it is another area in good vehicular space to place things.

It can also be a hindrance if abused like anything else.

Suction cups general:
Question:

In one of the videos it only takes a second to remove the desktop and another second to re-install the desktop.  How can this be?
Answer:  Just leave the suction cups secured on the windshield.  That way all you have to do is place the desktop.  Securing the cups is about the most timely and difficult aspect to this application.
Question:  How long does it take to install the suction cups and desktop?
Answer:  About (10) seconds.  As seen in other video.  Accurate cup placement is all that is necessary.
Question:  Can the suction cups be semi-permanently secured to the windshield?
Answer:  Yes with a little dab of silicone caulk.  Normally the cups will stay secure on the windshield for a week or two depending on temperatures.  After a week or two you might have to re-moisten the cups.   We are located in Florida where its sunny all the time.  We have found that the cups pretty much just do their thing.  N
ot a problem.  Not really an issue as far as we have observed.
Suction Cups: Structural Determinations Confirmations    Suction cups structural:
Question:  Do the suction cups hold the entire desktop assembly?
Answer:  Not entirely.  The majority of the weight is placed on the dashboard thru the spacer(s) and the arm and the desktop cantilever.  The back side of the suction cups have a bulbous rubber base that we modify slightly to fit into a cavity that we have also cut into the fork tops thereby forming an interlocking anchoring scenario.  The forks and fork cavity's exert upward force from the desktop assembly up onto and into the suction cups bulbous base thereby interlocking the forks with the cups efficiently "snugly nesting" and holding the components steadfast in both the horizontal plane and the vertical plane.
Question:  How much weight will a windshield hold ?
Answer:  (22) + pounds.  See video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTOS_lNIdVk  is link to other successful crowdfunder campaign and similar product with a solid presentation as to how strong a windshield really is by placing (22) lbs of weights on suction cup type apparatus.  And this (22) pounds force in video is at only "one" point of contact.  D to D upward forces on the windshield at the (2) suction cups and are about one tenth of these forces or about (2.5) pounds per cup.  And the D to D cups and forks exert their minor amount of upwards force at the very bottom edge of the windshield which is the structurally strongest point of the windshield.
Question:  How much force is actually put on the windshield at the suction cups from the desktop and assembly?  It seems like the forces are upwards too as opposed to gravitational downward forces?
Answer:  The suction cups displace the forces thru their (2) x (3)" footprints.  The average weight of the desktop assembly is (5) pounds whose forces are about equalibrium with no gadgetry.  The forces put on the windshield at the cups from the desktop assembly are shared with the cantilever over the dashboard forces and only amount to about (2.5) pounds of upward force at each of the (2) cups.  And that would be with gadgetry figuring (5) pounds of gadgetry.   Thats the equivalent weight of a bag of sugar
