Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers.
-The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 19
Imagine your life without the internet. Imagine someone else arbitrarily deciding what you could and couldn’t see or risking jail and worse for accessing Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or Google. That’s how 1.6B people live every day. With your help, we can change that right now.
Meet Lantern, a new internet censorship circumvention tool being built on advanced peer-to-peer (P2P) technology. We’re a small team of hackers, artists, writers and social entrepreneurs led by the former chief architect of Limewire, Adam Fisk. We love the internet and believe in the fundamental power of a community of people coming together for the greater good.
What We Need & What You Get
We need 70K to match a large grant that funds our server, development and outreach costs. We rely on grants and donations of both money and time to build and translate Lantern. To ensure that users have access even if they do not have peers, we maintain a global infrastructure of servers. We need your help to continue to provide access to users in censored countries and to expand the network even further.
We've created a bunch of great perks to thank you for joining the Lantern movement. From specially designed Lantern stickers, t-shirts and flashlights to your own server through our "Adopt a Server" program and one of a kind Raspberry Pi's.
Lantern is a user-centered project from code to communications. We are open source, relying on contributions from an international team of developers and translators.
By running Lantern, every user with access to the uncensored internet can become a gateway to the open internet for those in censored regions. With your donation, you join a global movement of people working together to defeat internet censorship.
