My name is Katey Jakins, and I am Simba's foster mom. Simba is a sweet, gentle soul who has been living with us for 6 weeks. Simba is a 6 year old standard poodle who worked as a service dog for an adolescent boy with autism before he came into foster care with Standard Poodle Rescue Ontario.

Simba has had Addison's Disease for 5 years and has had 4 crises since diagnosis due to poorly optimized treatment. In addition to florinef, Simba has been on prednisone chronically.

Unfortunately, Simba's last crisis occured at the end of January while he was in foster care. Thanks to the wonderful people at Standard Poodle Rescue Ontario, Simba received the veterinary care he very much needed, and is doing well.

Simba initially spent 2 nights in hospital; the hospital admission and subsequent follow-up visit were $1,500 which our rescue is still paying back. Simba is not out of the woods yet. His heart is beating too quickly, even at rest, and he is short of breath for much of the time. Simba isn't able to handle even so much as a walk around the block but we haven't diagnosed the cause yet.

At Simba's last vet appointment on Feb 19/13, $500 in bloodwork was recommended to help him. In addition, the vet has recommended an ultrasound of his heart, which costs around $800.

Please consider donating towards Simba's veterinary care. Our goal is to raise $2,000 for his ongoing care. The money donated will be deposited directly into Standard Poodle Rescue's paypal account, and will go directly to Simba's medical care. Our goal is to get Simba feeling great! If we go about our $2,000, the rescue still gets the money!

We have 14 days to raise this money so please feel free to share with your friends and family who may be sympathetic towards a dog living with a chronic disease such as Addison's.
