About the Show:
FREAK PLAYGROUND is an original play by me, Keiko Green. It follows 6 women on a playground, slowly retreating back into their childhood roles and games.
The show explores themes of sibling rivalry, bullying, competition, gender roles, drugs, and sex. All of the characters are based on playground children, and we will be recreating many playground structures (the slide, the swings, etc.) through representational movement.
With aspects of dance, chance, and masks, this 60-minute performance is planned to perform in Seattle on July 6th & 7th. The final script will be presented in mid-May, with rehearsals beginning right as the fundraising campaign comes to an end on May 21st.
My name is Keiko Green. I'm a 26 year-old half-Japanese theatre artist. I got my BFA in Theatre from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, studying mostly under the Experimental Theatre Wing. I like to mix little kid things with grown up things. I think it's important to say something with a show, but I take the word "entertainment" very seriously. I am here to entertain you!
Only 2 Nights?
Freak Playground has already been submitted to a few festivals, and will continue to grow. But we need your help. I also have plans to do at least one site-specific version of the show at a local playground.
The goal amount is the bare minimum of what it will cost to put up this production.
This includes rehearsal/performance space, the (unfortunately very little) pay for talent and crew, costumes, props, posters, etc. Anything you can give will be GREATLY appreciated!
