My name is Rachel Dukes. I’m an illustrator and have been and self-publishing comics for nearly ten years. I’m currently enrolled at the Center for Cartoon Studies, pursuing my MFA in cartooning.
Earlier this year, I wrote and illustrated an all-ages book “Frankie’s Busy Day” about my cat, Frankie. Frankie has been in my autobio comics over the years, but this was the first book that was completely about her. I hand-crafted eighty copies of the book this summer and I’ve already sold all but two copies. It’s time to reprint!
In addition to the second printing of “Frankie’s Busy Day,” I also want to debut a new comic: “Coffee Cats,” a story about a race of tiny cats who live in coffee trees and how they come to effect coffee and its consumers.
- “Frankie’s Busy Day” is 28 pages in full color, with a three-colour silkscreened cover, and a decorative yarn bookmark. All copies will be signed and numbered. (Read a preview.)
- “Coffee Cats” is 28 pages with black and white artwork. Also signed and numbered. (Read a preview.)
What We Need & What You Get:
I'm asking for $910 for this project. That will cover the cost of ordering materials for the books and incentives, printing costs for the books interiors, indiegogo fees, and shipping costs to get these goodies in your hands.
For helping fund these books going to production, I’m offering the following incentives:
- PDFs of both books
- Print copies of both books
- Four silkscreened patches of Frankie
- Four silkscreened stickers of Frankie
- A button pack of Frankies
- Original artwork from both books
- Custom black and white commissions by yours truly
I love making comics and am truly proud of “Frankie’s Busy Day” and “Coffee Cats.” Being able to see these books in print, in the hands of people who will enjoy them, means the world to me.
The timing of these books going to production is also opportune because I just found out that I’ll be bringing Frankie home when I visit family on the west coast in a few weeks.
While the funds raised through this campaign's goal will pay for the materials/incentives production, I hope that some of the additional money raised (if any) can help pay for Frankie’s upcoming vet and travel expenses.
(If I don’t hit the goal, all expenses raised will still go to book and incentive production; the production quantities will just be smaller.)
Other Ways You Can Help:
If you can’t help fund the campaign, please spread the word about Frankie and the Coffee Cats.
Thanks for reading!
