What is Form?

A 2D, Indie Platforming Adventure. Sure that part sounds familiar, but Form brings something completely different to the genre, to put other titles to shame.

Have we gamers not all had the same dream? A game in which you can create beings from scratch. Create anything from nothing.

That very concept came to me many years ago now, but never evolved past my imagination, until a few months ago. Over those months, I have successfully designed a game simple enough to understand and develop, but with all of the right elements from the beginning concept.

Your adventures in form will start simply. You will arrange particles to create a simple creature with random characteristics based upon how you arranged those particles. During this creation stage, you will not be told which particle controls which characteristic and how. This allows for a unique character every time.

Just a small fraction of planned modifiable characteristics:

  • Combat Abilities
  • Combat Performance
  • Jump Height
  • Weight
  • Appearance
  • Strength
  • Speed
  • Intelligence

The overall aim of Form is to rid the world of Machines, and reclaim it for the living beings. There will be simple mechanical enemies for regular areas, as well as giant industrial beasts for boss fights. Different enemies will require different strengths to defeat, as will the obstacles and challenges.

 

What content has been produced so far?

By the time this project goes live, I have found a suitable platform for development, designed and created a working menu and creation stage concept as well as completed some game visuals. 

Currently, the fully completed aspects are:

  • Platforming Physics
  • Control Schemes
  • Optional Visual Effects
  • Camera Management
  • 2D Flat movement

Funding is vital for any advancement in other fields.

 

Why use Indiegogo?

As I'm sure you're aware, developing a game is no simple process. Due to the specific needs of Form as a game, and the size of the development team, a campaign was vital for it's production. Production costs constantly appear from all angles:

How much will Form cost?


This version of form is designed to be completely free, although I cannot say what the future may hold.

What platforms will Form be released on?


Currently, we only plan to release Form on PC via download, popular gaming services or in - browser play.

Who is on the development team?


Simply me (Tom Jeal) and some good friends. I will be inviting many different people, each with different skills, to work with me on Form, though I will have the main role in all production.

When will form be released?

I cannot give a specific date at this time, I require a complete works of software to accurately predict the development time, but I'm aiming to release Form in Late 2013 - Early 2014.
