Our Indiegogo campaign is over! We raised more than half of our goal to double SNAP/Food Stamps at the market for all of next season. If you're just finding this campaign now and are inspired to give, you can write checks out to Tuesday Market and mail them to Tuesday Market, 1 Venturers Field Rd., Northampton, MA 01060. If you would like your contribution to be tax-deductible, you can email us for details: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Delicious! Community! Accessible! These three words describe everything that's great about Tuesday Market, an inspiring weekly farmers
market in Northampton, Massachusetts. For the
past 3 years, the market has accepted Food Stamps/SNAP benefits and doubled the
value of those benefits up to $10 per customer per week through our
FoodStampsX2 program. That means that if you swipe $10 on your EBT card, you
get $20 in Tuesday Market tokens to spend at the market every week.
We have watched this program grow. Three years ago, approximately 12 people on average came every week to use their benefits. Now over 60 SNAP customers use the FoodStampsX2 program every week (and some weeks over 80 SNAP customers use it). Despite our successful fundraising efforts from a family foundation, local businesses, a local bank, an annual pie contest and bake sale, and a number of individuals, we can’t keep up with the demand. We are asking for your help to keep this program going.
We love the FoodStampsX2 program because it makes fresh, local food accessible to all community members, regardless of their income. It
also brings more income to our hard-working, small-scale farmers. Together this makes a win-win-win for
farmers, customers, and the community as a whole.
We need to raise $15,000 to sustain FoodStampsX2 through another year. Any amount from $5-$1,500 will help it keep going. Every dollar that we raise through this campaign goes directly to putting food in the hands of people who benefit from the program. The market pays for and covers all administrative costs of running the FoodStampsX2 program throughout the year from our vendor fees.
Our perks are all from the market!
Some are beautiful, some are functional, some are delicious.
Our bigger hope is that more and more farmers markets can create programs like ours which simultaneously support farmers and customers and lead to better supported food systems in our communities.
Thanks for your support! Please spread the word through Indiegogo sharing tools or through Facebook or Twitter or by sending emails to people you know who think good food should be for everybody.
