Who We Are

Founded in 2003, Food 4 Afrca is a non profit charity that manufactures, packages and distributes highly nutritional food directly to children in the rural areas of South Africa. F4A moved into action identifying some of the most deprived communities within South Africa’s rural areas. Currently we are feeding 17,000 children per day and within the next few years we would like to double those numbers up to 30,000 - 35,000 per day.

Food 4 Africa is a project run by Gordon Minott and a team of dedicated volunteers, who are focused on supplying  children with at least one vitamin and mineral enriched meal every day. Without proper nutrition from birth to twelve years old, a child's brain will not be able to fully develop and continued learning will be difficult.

Patrons

John Paul & Eloise DeJoria - US

F4A_Patrons

John Paul DeJoria is the Co-Founder and CEO of John Paul Mitchell Systems (Paul Mitchell Hair Care Products) and The Patron Spirits Company. Before his success, John Paul found himself homeless on more than one occasion. Those were the days of collecting Coke bottles and cans to cash them in for a few pennies. But, no matter how difficult the challenge, he managed to keep his head above water. After having traveled to Africa and being exposed to the plight of poverty stricken children, John Paul and his wife Eloise immediately reached out to help by becoming active Patrons of FOOD 4 AFRICA. They have committed their full support to assist in the raising of funds to help alleviate the burden of hunger in South Africa.

Gordon Minott

CEO, Managing Director and Co-Founder of FOOD4AFRICA South African businessman, Gordon Minott is a man with an extraordinary passion for helping poor and destitute children within his country. His stringent “hands on” attitude and experience in the field of cost effective food distribution to masses of people is second to none.

Allan Oberholzer

Co-Founder of FOOD4AFRICA – CEO 1000 Angels Writer / Producer, Allan was born in South Africa and has worked in the international film industry for twenty two years. He teamed up with his close friend and partner, world renowned American businessman John Paul DeJoria to form “1000 Angels”, a corporate entity that will launch international campaigns to raise funds for FOOD4AFRICA.

How we Work

Food4Africa have negotiated with a company who have been involved in the nutroceutical cereal business for the past 15 years, to produce and pack the product on our behalf.

"E" Distributors, D & H Deliveries and Expressway undertake all logistic and transporting of the product to various distribution point.

The field workers draw their supplies from the depots, and deliver them to the identified units. Each delivery is recorded by digital photo, recording date and time. The field workers are paid a nominal commission per bag delivered, provided the digital photo recordings and clinical reports are submitted. Each unit is required to submit on a monthly basis, and a clinical report on a percentage of their children in the identified units to monitor the effect of the feeding and weight gain. This information is then forwarded to the company recorder who verifies the deliveries.

The reasons we have decided to run with this system is:

  • To eliminate large administration costs
  • The product is delivered directly to the consumer, not left somewhere for it to be collected if transport is unavailable
  • The product reaches the consumer at less than half the retail cost, enabling us to feed more children

As more funds become available, we will increase our coverage throughout Southern Africa.

The Food

The Food 4 Africa project has developed a unique blend of cooked maize/soya blend (Nutraceutical Porridge), containing 19 vitamins and minerals. that are easy to prepare. You simply mix the cereal with cold or luke warm water or milk and you have a tasty meal that provides a child with the essential vitamins and minerals to build a healthy immune system.

This maize/soya blend will:

  • maximize energy levels
  • enhance immune system
  • promote better concentration
  • promote sense of well-being
  • alleviate hunger
  • Improve schooling

The energy boosting vitamin and mineral enriched cereal, which ensures that the nutrient intake is more than sufficient to supply more that the body’s daily requirement, thereby allowing excess nutrients to be stored in the bone marrow and liver.

  • If consumed daily, will eliminate the known nutrient deficiencies as confirmed by the National Food Consumption Survey, i.e. Iron, Zinc, and Vitamin A deficiency.
  • The porridge is packed in 1kg packets to ensure product quality right up to the actual dispensing.
  • One simple meal a day has extraordinarily positive effects on children by improving their weight gain and well-being.

What We Need & What You Get

To support our life-changing work, we need to raise awareness and collect regular donations. With your help, we can ensure the children we currently feed will continue to be fed, and we can begin to look after new children in need.

By donating to the Food 4 Africa charity, you will receive unique perks along with each donation (see below for pictures of these fantastic rewards!). More importantly, with your help and support you will be able to know that your contribution will enable a child to have a healthy start in life.

Other Ways You Can Help
