We're Flying Anvil Theatre - a 501(c)(3) non-profit professional theatre in Knoxville, Tennessee. Founded by long-time friends and professional theatre artists, Jayne Morgan and Staci Swedeen (check out our full story at flyinganviltheatre.com) in 2011, Flying Anvil has produced first-rate shows in a variety of settings. Our 2012 show, Pardon Me For Living was selected by Piccolo Spoleto Festival this past May!
Knoxville has a great audience - but it's lacking in viable performance spaces for theatre. We've produced shows or readings in a lecture hall, a museum gallery, a restaurant, a junior college theatre and a hotel ballroom - and that's a problem. None of these spaces are OURS. The expense and lack of technical capabilities seriously limit our ability to do the kinds of shows we're capable of and we know Knoxville will love!
But we've found the solution! A very cool historic building in downtown Knoxville! We have a friendly landlord, a favorable lease, and the experience and vision to create a theatre that not only tells incredible stories, but pays for itself!
We need your help to make this happen. Your donation will be used to create the flexible performance space with 250 seats and underwrite our first season of edgy, explosive theatre.
Thanks for considering us. We appreciate any donation so much!
WHAT WE NEED AND WHAT YOU GET
Our goal is to raise $90,000.00. That amount (along with in-kind donations from our amazing partners) will allow Flying Anvil Theatre to fit out the theatre with lighting and sound systems, risers, a movable stage, and much more. Plus, you'll help pay our actors and designers. A big part of our mission is to help area theatre artists make a living from their hard work.
We've created a list of crazy good perks - to thank you for whatever you can give. You can choose to buy a seat ($350) or a lighting instrument ($250) or make our currently ink-less Artistic Director get a tattoo of our logo! ($10,000.) We have posters, tee-shirts and naming rights (The Your Name Here Stage!) up for grabs.
Our landlord has kindly given us 90 days to raise the money to transform the theatre. Six weeks after that, we'll open with our first show of the season - THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL - which has been called 'Southpark meets Desperate Housewives'!
Any amount over our goal will be used to fund our season and make sure our theatre designers and actors are well compensated!
If we don't reach our goal, all funds will be converted to production budgets for shows in rental venues. Your donations will be used for design and construction of the set, paying a great cast for rehearsals and performances and promotional materials. If you're one of our largest donors, (over $10,000) we'll contact you to discuss how you would like your donation to be used.
THE IMPACT OF YOUR DONATION
Flying Anvil Theatre is trying to create something that does not exist in Knoxville - an intimate performance space capable of producing professional-level productions with first-rate lighting and sound. We'll be small enough that there won't be a bad seat in the house and large enough that we can survive on our ticket sales.
But this space won't just benefit us - we'll make our stage available for other struggling companies to use at an attractive rental rate and provide technical and artistic mentoring to raise the standard of all live theatre in town. In addition, our space can be rented for concerts and events.
Our artistic team is guided by professionals with many years of experience as SAG and Equity performers. We have a hard-working Board that includes a wide variety of skills and expertise that includes architects, doctors, business owners, teachers, lawyers, event planners, film-makers and architects.
We've got a great reputation in town, but we're ready to fly higher. Please consider giving what you can to help Flying Anvil soar!
