A little bit about us:
The 4th annual Five-College Queer Gender and Sexuality Conference will take place on March 1st and 2nd at Hampshire College, featuring José Esteban Muñoz as our keynote, as well as performances, readings, and workshops by Heels on Wheels Roadshow, Cristy C. Road, Kay Ulanday Barrett, and Fabian Romero.
The conference aims to offer an accountable and supportive environment in which to
further explore a wide range of topics, and their intersections, such as race, genders,
sexualities, ability, class, kink, survival strategies, and many more, in a specifically
We strive to provide a safer space for engaging, learning, and fostering community with a wide range of workshops, panels, performances, and lectures by student leaders, Five-College faculty and staff, and off-campus educators. This open and inclusive conference is FREE and organized by a dedicated volunteer committee comprised of students from the Five Colleges and a staff advisor.
Due to high attendance rates in the past three years and community feedback suggesting we address more topics, we have decided to expand our conference to a two day event. By doing so, we are able to reach an even larger audience of students, faculty, and community members who may not be able to attend or present at this event otherwise.
We strongly believe in the importance of free, accessible educational events. As such, we do not charge a registration fee to attend our conference. In years past we have raised all of the budget through internal donations, but this year we are concerned that might not be sufficient to pull off the kind of fabulous event we have planned.
This is where you come in!!! We are asking you - if you can - to donate any of the amounts listed here. Honestly: every dollar counts.
How can you support us?
This conference is imagined and executed by a team of students from Hampshire, Smith, and Mount Holyoke Colleges. The total cost for this student inspired, led, and organized two-day event will be $16,000, which is DOUBLE the budget we've had in the past.
We have expanded the scope of our conference and will now be having educational workshops on Friday and Saturday (March 1st and 2nd) with a fabulous group of entertainers on Friday night. With your contribution we are confident that this event will be an amazing success and something that you will be proud to support!
For helping us out, you will receive anything from personal thank you's on our Facebook page and in our program, to hip Queer Conference swag, hand made patches, or a personalized poster of our appreciation to be displayed throughout the conference and given to you.
Why is this event important?
This conference fills an unmet need for a designated space to teach, learn, and explore matters relating to queer identities and their intersections. We address topics touched on in queer studies classrooms as well as in our personal and professional lives. This is a great opportunity for networking, sustainable community building, and strategizing for social change.
Equally as important, it is an opportunity for personal discovery and growth. Students and community members can gain leadership skills through facilitating workshops and panels. All attendees are invited to spend the day learning, sharing, and making connections.
Other Ways You Can Help
We fully understand that not everyone can contribute monetarily. However, we would really appreciate if you would spread the word!!!
