WHAT is FitFriend?

FitFriend is bringing old Sportswatch behaviour to the iPhone. While in addition, bringing you new ways to map out runs, train in increments, and eventually coaching.

Something got lost in translation in porting the first wave of apps from that Garmin or Timex watch that you traditionally used, to the mobile device. Essential functionality such as "laps" were missed out on, while at the same time non-essential functionality such as "badges" or whatever added to the clutter.

You may have switched from your watch to your mobile device to log your workouts. Then switched back, because you found your watch is still better. Or you haven't switched back, but you're left wishing the mobile captured the kind of training your watch captures. You don't know whether you're missing out on more, by using a watch or a mobile.

This is because the current crop of running apps are cluttered, and irrelevant to runner's needs.

Runners still use their watches over apps, and for a good reason. Because the watch tracks times relevant to the variety of training that you get from any good running program. Runners are still choosing to use their watches, for training such as "intervals", "hills", "tempo", "fartlek". This has to change, the world has gone mobile now.

FitFriend is bringing old reliable behaviour + new intuitive behaviour, to the mobile.

WHO We Are

Currently a 1-man shop, Mike Post is founder and CTO. Seeing as it's just me at the moment, I'm going to switch from the 3rd person now :) I come from 3 backgrounds - running, music & audio engineering, and computer engineering.

Running competitively as a teen in orienteering, and for my high school track & field team, training has been a part of my life in some way for almost 2 decades.

Playing music was also a big part of my life as a teen, and I studied the technology side of it at university for 3 years in my twenties. Not having enough of university, or technology, I returned 2 years later to study computer engineering. I've been working as a software engineer for almost 5 years now, mainly in mobile apps.

Sometimes you get a calling though, when you realise that something isn't as good as it could be - and that brings us to where we are now. Using my experience in running and engineering, to bring you kickass products. To me, quality matters most - that's going to be reflected in FitFriend products.

WHAT We Need

Your contributions, and your passion, to help drive this forward. Most of the engineering work has been completed for the initial release on iOS, and is currently entering beta testing. Choose 1 of the following perks to your right, from Spectator, Casual, Active, Competitor, or Olympian.

Funding will be directed to the incomplete work, for the initial iPhone release. in order of priority:

- Graphics

- Feature enhancements

- iOS7 support

- Marketing / Advertising

If the amount raised surpasses the goal of $5000, and reaches $10,000 the additional funding will be directed to future expansion:

- Pebble integration

- Coaching services

- Servers and iCloud integration

If the amount raised surpasses $20,000, the additional funding will be directed to the next line of future expansion:

- Blackberry10 release

- WP8 release

- Android release

LONGTERM

When things get crazy and we eventually have a large amount of funding available, there are some new types of hardware products in the pipeline, that will turn the way you do workouts upside down.

PROMOTION

Can't offer funding? Or merely want to help out more? No problem - you can do that AND we can even give you something in return!

All you need to do is to dress as a giant chicken and stand on a street corner, for 100 hours. Kidding! Instead, share the campaign using the share tools above.

We'll give $200, to the person whose sharing, has led to the most amount of contributions. Ok? So anyone who logs into Indiegogo, and shares the campaign on Twitter, Facebook, or elsewhere, qualifies for this $200 prize! But only if you log into Indiegogo - otherwise we have no way of tracking you.

NOTE: I have to give credit to Tracy McMillan here for the same kind of promotion in Localeikki's excellent recreation database app :) If you're feeling extra generous, you can fund that here too.

Thank you for listening. We promise you that FitFriend will be a lot more exciting than this boring chunk of text you just read through. Stay tuned for more updates, by following us on Twitter or Facebook!
