I'm John Colver, author of Fit by Nature; The Adventx Twelve-Week Outdoor Fitness Program. 

Over a ten year period, I combined two passions - Fitness Coaching and Mountain Guiding, leading over a hundred climbing teams on Mount Rainier and coaching many more people to achieve their Mount Rainier goals. What I learned about Mount Rainier is that it is a very challenging mountain for any climber. Each year approximately 9000 people attempt to climb the mountain. Less than 50% will reach the summit and the biggest reason for turning back short of that goal is insufficient fitness conditioning. 

Setting out to increase the odds, I did extensive research with climbers, medical professionals, guides and rangers to develop the Fit To Climb program. To date, I've personally trained over two hundred Mount Rainier climbers and I'm thrilled to be able to say that every climber who has attempted the summit after following the Fit To Climb Program has been successful, mostly on the first attempt.  

The Fit To Climb Book draws on direct coaching experience and extensive research. This book will teach readers how to be ready to climb Mount Rainier and it will outline a sixteen week training program. It will cover all pertinent topics including, planning nutrition, equipment and mental preparation. It will inspire confidence and demystify the training process. In short, it will provide a comprehensive step-by-step plan designed to coach the first time Mount Rainier climber to reach the summit -- one of the most magnificent mountains in the world -- and to feel the elation and accomplishment of attaining an often-transformative life experience. 

I've assembled a team to produce this. I'll be bringing my experience from writing Fit by Nature, years of experience climbing mountains, and my years of experience coaching people to produce the creative content of this book. Debbie Reber will be the project editor and writing coach, providing expert publishing experience to guide this book to successful fruition. Rohit Eipe will be the editor-in-chief for the book; responsible for planning, scheduling, administration, and execution of the book. I have a few close friends whom I've climbed with, worked out with, and coached; who will provide feedback on the book during its draft stages.

We'll allocate the funding for this book as follows: $2500 for John's time, $1000 for Debbie's time, $800 for Rohit's time, $1500 for design, editing, publishing and marketing services; and $250 for other small fees like purchasing ISBNs, printing draft copies of the book, etc.

Your climb will (at your option) be booked at the peak of the season (July), with the pros at Rainier Mountaineering Inc. (RMI). (a $1350 value). We'll pay for your gear rental (a $300 - $500 value). You'll receive every version of the book. You'll train for 16 weeks with John. You'll be invited to the book launch party. Each participant will receive a photo album as well as a short video of the climb.
