Hi there. My name is Jeremy and I teach kindergarten. I've been in the elementary education field for close to 20 years now and I've also worked in an independent bookstore and for a major publisher. I have a passion for reading that I try to impart to my students. By publishing, I hope to reach more students.
I came up with the idea to publish some leveled readers (beginner books that teachers can use for instruction) when I realized, while there are some good books out there, they could be better. I want to create titles that combine a sense of humor, good graphic design, and subjects that are interesting to children. Additionally, they'll make use of current research on how children best learn to read.
With your help, I'll be able to publish 9 titles, featuring my energetic wheaten terrier Finn for comic relief. Three level A, three level B and three level C books have all been written and are in the process of having the finishing touches put on their design. (Check out the mock up of I See Dinosaurs at the top of your screen.) The next stop is the printers!
I'm so excited to see these titles in print and being used in classrooms and already have a second set of titles in mind. With your donation, I can make these books a reality.
What I Need & What You Get
I so appreciate your donation, no matter the size and want you to know that I intend to put it to good use. Here's a breakdown of the project.
- $7,500 cost of having the books printed.
- $500 cost of ISBNs, number codes used to identify individual titles.
- $1,000 cost of website to market books.
If I exceed my goal, I'll work on adding more titles to the series. If I don't reach my goal, I'll look for other ways to raise funds and put them toward having the books printed. I'm determined to see this project through and publish high quality readers for kids.
To show my appreciation, I'm offering a series of perks at various levels. Check them out to the right.
I'm starting small here with nine titles, but ultimately I want to create a rich library of books that teachers all across the US can use in their classroom. My hope is that teachers and students alike will enjoy the well designed and well written books, as a love of reading is fostered in classrooms everywhere.
I feel like I'm up to the task. I've written successful grants in the past, in the hopes of enriching the learning environment of my students. One grant found me creating hands-on colonial history kits, another helped raise funds for a raptor in Alaska and yet another grant helped put picture books and mentor readers in local school libraries.
Other Ways You Can Help
While a monetary donation ultimately helps me to get these books printed, there are other things you can do to help me make this project happen. You can tell your friends, family and neighbors about my project through word of mouth, FaceBook and LinkedIn or by using the Indiegogo share tools. I really appreciate your help!
