In the spring of 2011 two local Richmond Creatives, Josh Epperson & Johnny Hugel began brainstorming around a problem that they had been enountering throughout their various projects: What more could be done to bring the enthusiastic and creative producers and supporters of Richmond together under one roof, and unite them under a common goal. On a recent trip to NYC, Josh enountered an idea, FEAST Brooklyn who had a similar goal; and accomplished it by hosting regular community dinners and allowing the attendees to decide which creative presentation of the night was deserving of the funds for the dinner.
With that kernal of an idea, which FEAST Brooklyn was enthusiastic to share, Feast RVA was born. A few short months later, in September 2011, the first Feast RVA was held at a Richmond art gallery space. 50 diners attended, and ended up donating over $500 to creative projects. Since then, 6 quarterly Feast dinners have been held, and over $3600 has been raised for creative & community oriented projects.
In recent months Feast RVA has become a registered business within the State of Virginia, submitted for 501(c)(3) non-profit status, established a long-term venue for the events & built an advisory board and team to ensure that the organization continues to play a role in the support and promotion of Richmond creative projects well into the future.
What We Need & What You Get
Feast RVA has luckily benefitted thus far by the support of the Richmond creative and non-profit community. However to maintain the quality of the events & reduce reliance on outside assistance for each event. The money will go to purchase the items we'll use for all our events for the future (AV equipment, tables, chairs, glassware) & ongoing business expenses (insurance, permits & licenses) for the year. Surprisingly, it costs a lot of money to do things the right way.
What you get: Feast RVA exists as a platform to allow anyone to present their idea to a group, support those ideas financially, and provide an enthustiastic and motivated audience for helping those and other ideas take shape. We hope that this is more of a reward than a promotional item that would be lost or tossed weeks after receiving.
Through supporting FeastRVA:
You help increase the creative and community capital in Richmond Virginia.
You help create a guaranteed space where Richmond thinkers and doers can congregate and share ideas.
You support a grassroots movement that doesn't see a need to wait for permission to make change in our community. We are the change we wish to see in the world.
Other Ways You Can Help
We've been very lucky to have found a very supportive and devoted following within Richmond. Our team members, volunteers and attendees all share a similar passion for supporting the concept and ideas presented at our events. If you can't give financially, your assistance in spreading the word about Feast RVA and our campaign would be much appreciated, and we'd look to see you at the next event!
