Hello my name is Evan Long and I am a Boy Scout from troop 7 out of Niantic Connecticut. I am a Life Scout and have been involved in scouting since I was five years old when I joined the Cub Scouts. I am currently working on my Eagle Scout project, a culmination of all my years in scouting and its highest rank.
For my project I will be constructing a trail heading/Kiosk at the beginning of a new trail system on the Darrows Pond Property in East Lyme CT. There are 301 acres of land just off Mostowy Road that were recently purchased by the town of East Lyme. The land sits between Camp Pattagansett, Yale's Outdoor Recreation Center, and Nehantic State Forest. The property is a mix of open fields, oak and maple forests, and wetlands. There are already several scenic trails on the land (which can be enhanced) with 200 acres to be used for recreation which includes hiking and the possible construction of a couple athletic fields. The remaining 101 acres of land will be used for the towns drinking water supply lands. These trails are in need of a heading to invite hikers onto the land. They will be used to post information about the trail such as maps and other vital information that hikers need to know. It will have an enclosed bulletin board to prevent weather damage and will have an attached bench similar to the one you see in the photo. There will also be a first aid kit attached, which could help someone who is injured out on the trails, as it is quite a hike back to the cars. The first aid kit could potentially save a life.
Approximately $2300 is needed to fund this project, which includes the cost of all materials and supplies. My goal for this campaign is $1500.
Any donation is greatly appreciated. If you can’t donate, that is understandable in these tight times, you could contribute by helping to spread the word using the indiegogo share tool.
Thanks for your time!
