We are Absolute Design, a small and young company based in Croatia, made out of few professional and highly creative designers and engineers that have extensive experience in design and development of various kinds of electric vehicles; from high-end bicycles and city cars, up to fast sports cars.
During our careers we worked with many well-known automotive companies like the Lamborghini, McLaren, Chrysler and Alfa Romeo for who we designed future concept vehicles.
Here you can see some of the work we did for other private clients and companies worldwide.
First, we would like to thank Rebecca Bierwolf Goeckeritz who we featured in our video. She is a motivational speaker who greatly inspired everyone on the team regarding the project. You can all check her webpage at www.captivatemotivate.com
Financially, we really wish we could do it on our own but we just can't and that's why we need you, the contributors, to take a journey with us in making this innovative vehicle a reality.
Ask yourself few questions that we did.
- Have I ever thought about difficulties disabled people go through every day?
- What are their needs and what could make their lives better?
- How do they actually feel about their mobility?
Through our research and many personal interviews with people who use wheelchairs, we found out three most important things that all of them want.
They want to be more...
We knew that with our knowledge and expertise we could do something special for them so we came up with an idea that incorporates all three things into one product.
We developed the EQUAL; a functional and cool looking small electric city car specially designed around needs of people in wheelchairs that will help ease their lives in many ways, especially in the way of independent mobility.
We didn't want to design another boring small electric city car like other companies make. Instead, we envisioned a really interesting car which has soul and a personality, that is going to turn people's heads when they see it on the streets. With this car we wanted to achieve something truly special; to make the disabled person who owns and drives it, feel positive and important. Our target market is mainly younger population, as well as older people that usually need caregiver's help to enter their cars.
The EQUAL is specific because of its entry system; it is not located at the sides like on other cars, instead it is located at the back. Because of the innovative construction and the use of electric hub motors in the back wheels, there is no need for any mechanical linkage between the wheels. That allowed us to make a clear path for the disabled person to simply and independently enter his/her car without ever exiting the wheelchair.
Disabled people don't want to emphasize on their disability in any way and they want to be treated like everybody else. We addressed that by designing the car in that way so when you see it on the street you can't notice if the person driving is in the wheelchair or not. We achieved that with many small details but mainly by raising the shoulder line which also gave the car more aggressive forward stance.
Functionality is most important, but functionality with great styling is what we want to offer with this car.
The exterior of EQUAL is designed to be original with a sporty and elegant silhouette, further accentuated by the two-tone body color, but we still kept it simple to make the production costs as minimal as possible.
Most noticeable element of the exterior is a removable storage box which is located on the back of the car. Small cars and especially micro cars like this one don't have a lot of storage space because of their dimensions. That is their biggest drawback but still mostly they are owned by people in city centers and small places that use them everyday for groceries shopping or visiting close by friends and they are limited by how much things they can take with them. That is why we came up with this solution of optional storage which we successfully incorporated into the overall design of the car. Also the whole back of the car is ergonomically designed so the person that is in wheelchair can come as close as possible to the storage box without making too much effort in leaning forward.
The interior is ergonomically designed with a disabled person in mind. The driving system consists of an adjustable steering wheel with a spinner knob for easier one-hand steering and of the Autoadapt Carospeed Menox, an intuitive hand control device that is used to accelerate or brake which has all the functions integrated in one place. Sides of the interior are designed carefully and with style in mind; with rails and handles that the person uses to enter and exit the car. Also there are places, easily accessible, for placing things like small bags, backpacks, etc.
After we will develop this prototype, we plan to design a lot of of styling packages and accessories for exterior and the interior; from all kinds of different glossy and mat colors to customizable detalis, graphics etc., so everyone can make their car unique and can reflect their personality and feeling.
These are just some of the examples. We can customize the car anyway you want.
At this point, we need support to take the next steps in making the prototype of the vehicle. The total cost for this, including all the technical documentation for approval purposes so the vehicle could be legally used on the road, is $150.000.
We plan to spend...
- $60.000 to build a fully operational prototype and develop its mechanical systems and subsystems.
- $45.000 for the tools to build parts of the exterior and the interior (for ABS or polyester, textile and leather cutting schemes, standardizing programs for CNC machines for metal and other parts).
- $30.000 to build three „0“ series vehicles
- $10.000 for developing a smartphone application for integration between the user and her/his vehicle.
- $5.000 to arrange our central showroom in Zagreb, Croatia, the basics of marketing, sales and logistics network.
We don't reach the planned goal of $150.000 - We are sincerely going to thank everyone for their support but unfortunately we are not going to be financially able building the car on our own. We assure you we will not going to give up on this project because of its potential and because we invested a lot of knowledge, time and money so far. Hopefully, someone will recognize us and help us reach our goal.
- We overcome the planned goal of $150.000 (up to $1.000.000) - We are going to invest each and every cent into the
next steps to get closer to serial production, production facility, new employees, marketing and sales, logistics
and service network to cover as much as international markets as possible.
- We overcome the $1.000.000 - That would mean that we could independently establish our own serial production and networking without any other type of funding, bank credits, etc. In that case, we are going to make an open list online on our web page of disabled people or associations worldwide (with requested diagnoses and medical proof of particular applicant to avoid possible abuse of reselling) and randomly donate few vehicles each year. Also we would search for partners to establish licensed production worldwide, so various economies and people could benefit from our product.
Without you, the contributors, our project can't succeed so we came up with very interesting and valuable perks.
Also, you should know that if we don't reach the planned goal, everyone gets their money back.
All the perks listed may vary in design and color but we will do our best to acquire the ones that are on the images.
The estimated delivery for the claimed perks is somewhere at the end of April or middle of May, 2014.
- We are going to unlock more really exclusive perks if we overcome our planned goal of $150.000
Your contributions to this campaign will have a great impact in many ways, particularly in one thing and that is we will be able to make a car that a lot of disabled people all around the world have been waiting, for a long time.
Also if we are going to be successful in this campaign, and we know we will, it will trigger more interesting projects because our plan is not only to make this vehicle; we want to continuously design and develop more innovative and unique vehicles in the future.
Also we will show to others that if you have an idea and the idea is to improve other peoples lives, with hard work, perseverance and the support of many you can achieve almost anything.
We know that there are many people that just can't make a financial contribution but want to be a part of something great. If you are one of them you can support our project in many ways.
For example, you can share this campaign with your friends, family or acquaintances over social media like the Facebook, Twitter, MySpace or directly on their e-mails.
Also if you have a personal blog or maybe you're active on some forums, you can make a big difference in spreading the information about the campaign.
