The EPIC Quest is a huge, online, interactive puzzle. Five chapters, five weeks, $5,000 in cash prizes. The premise: clues and riddles will be hidden in every corner of the internet (think hidden pixels on websites or embedded clues in a cat video). To win and be crowned the EPIC Champion, you just need to solve all five chapters the fastest. You can request an EPIC pre-invite right now and check out a SAMPLE CLUE below:
We’ve made it our full time job to create great puzzles, so we’re excited to present this one-of-a-kind challenge. We will begin production on EPIC as soon as the campaign wraps up.
We love the community we live and work in, so it's important to us that we spread the love around. Over the past three years, we've been involved with producing the annual fundraising events for two national charities here in Ottawa, Canada. We're keeping the giving streak alive by letting winners choose a charity to also "win" through EPIC. Each winners' charity will receive a donation equal to the prize money that was won. So if you win $1,000, we'll also donate $1,000 to your charity. That's why we've called it "Win a Little, Give a Little!"
We grew up on movies like Indiana Jones and have dreamed of becoming real life, mystery-solving heroes. We made a product that gives people a taste of that rush. Our real world UrbanQuest product gets people off the couch and solving clues in their own city. For the EPIC Quest, we wanted to build an online puzzle that everyone could take a crack at. We also got inspiration for the EPIC Quest from books like Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (we highly recommend it to all gamers and ‘80s kids!).
A few months ago, we brought EPIC to life through a beta test with select users. The reception was very positive and we received great feedback that allowed us to work out the bugs. So, now we’re eager to bring the EPIC Quest to everyone!
As a contributor, you get our endless appreciation, gratitude ... and the following perks!
In order to make the EPIC Quest truly, well, epic, we need to design and build the required areas of the website. We want it to look great and also have powerful back end technology for a smooth experience. Take a look below to see a breakdown of where the money is going. It mostly consists of awesome stuff like designing a live leaderboard but we’ll admit there is some boring stuff too, like lawyer fees (apparently, we need one).
If we raise more than $20,000!
We hope you will be interested in getting behind the biggest puzzle in Internet history. We appreciate all of your support. Even if the event isn’t for you, we hope you’ll help spread the word about our campaign. Please use the sharing tools to post about, tweet, and like EPIC!
There is a team of dedicated puzzle sensei behind EPIC. At the helm are two guys that simply love gaming and a good adventure. Anthony cut his teeth in San Francisco with the successful start-up Ingenio.com/Keen.com. He has been involved with three start-ups and has a strong track record of building successful businesses. He considers himself the brains of the operation. Wes is the design guru. He brings to the table seven years of graphic and user design expertise. Wes thinks of himself as the good looks of the company. Both are proud nerds.
UrbanQuest is where we make cool puzzles all day, when we’re not working on new ideas like EPIC. Our first product is a real world scavenger hunt that feels like the Amazing Race. Groups solve a series of clues that lead them from site to site in a city. It’s fun, you get to see interesting things, and you’ll even learn a thing or two along the way.
