The transition to renewable energy is in your hands – literally!
Join in on building Energy Democracy TV - the world’s first crowdpublished magazine app on the decentralized, community owned energy transition. Our mission is to spread the message about a world based on 100 % renewable, decentral energy - that´s what we call Energy Democracy.
Energy Democracy TV helps pave the way to a society based on 100 % renewable energy by covering stories that are often neglected or misinterpreted by traditional media: Behind the energy transition are engaged and committed people, conflicts, dramas and heroes of everyday life. They are making the energy revolution happen by pushing for right policies, building a community wind farm or installing solar panels on their roof.
Because of its digital nature, Energy Democracy TV is much more than a magazine: Inside Energy Democracy TV you'll find cross-media content: videos as well as written content, pictures as well as cartoons and infographs - and maybe your content? Our goal is to create a community of Energy Democratizers, worldwide.
If we reach our goal, we can:
- Edit and publish the first issue in October 2013
- Collaborate with our software developers at Geil,Danke! Mobile Publishing on developing a publishing system that allows for crowd publishing - that is, facilitates the collaborative process of collecting and editing content
- Build a network of contributors and a network of promotional partners
- Set up advertising deals to create a sustainable business – also after the first issue has been published
- Promote Energy Democracy TV – after all, we want the word to get out!

On the team
Kirsten Hasberg of Denmark is the Founder and CEO of Energy Democracy TV and has been passionate about renewable energy since she was 14 years old.
In April of 2013, Kirsten quit her job in Germany as manager of the European Project on 100% Renewable Energy Communities in order to launch Energy Democracy TV.
Kirsten is strongly inspired by Dr. Hermann Scheer, the father of the German Renewable Energy Act (Erneuerbare-Energien-Gesetz, EEG). And she was fortunate enough to work for Dr. Scheer as well.
Kirsten has also worked with the pioneers of the Danish renewable energy movement at the Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy in Denmark, and has additionally served as an energy policy advisor to members of the Danish Parliament.
Other professional positions Kirsten has held includes work for the Danish Transmission System Operator (TSO) and Risø DTU, the Danish National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy. Kirsten has been a lecturer at universities in Kassel, Germany, and Copenhagen, Denmark, and she holds a master's degree in economics from the University of Copenhagen. She also writes satirical cabaret songs about the renewable energy transition in both German and English--and has also written the Crowdfunding Song for the Energy Democracy TV campaign.
Please watch the pitch video where Kirsten explains why Energy Democracy TV is essential to making the energy revolution happen. For after all, we must all be the renewable energy we want to see!
Also, we are pleased to have US-born journalist and energy expert Craig Morris in the project. It is safe to say that he has become the most prominent explainer of the German energy transition in the English-speaking world over the past year. A resident of Germany since 1992, Craig has been writing about German energy policy in English for more than a decade and is the author of the 2006 book Energy Switch, which explains to North Americans what Germany is doing.
Craig is also the lead author of the new German Energy Transition website, which went online in November 2012; he is also the chief blogger at that site. Since 2010, he has been writing each workday at Renewables International. Craig is currently working on a documentary video in English on the German Energiewende. Go to the video gallery on the top of the campaign page to watch a sample video production by Craig Morris.
To secure the tech side of the project, Energy Democracy TV has Michaela Lehr and Michael Brammer on board, who are the founders and CEO's of Geil,Danke! Mobile Publishing in Berlin. They are passionate about creating app magazines with great user experience--to the degree that they actually named their company after the reaction they want from their customers when they receive their work--in English "Geil, Danke!" means "Cool, thank you!"
In the United States we have Bob Tregilus, co-host with Kirsten Hasberg on This Week in Energy (TWiE), a weekly new-media show. Each week an expert guest panelist joins TWiE co-hosts, Bob and Kirsten, for an informed thoughtful discussion animated by the week's energy news headlines. TWiE is unique in that it's the only energy industry show that covers hot topics in the energy space from the perspective of energy transition (Energiewende) policy experts.
Bob Tregilus is based in Reno, Nevada, where he founded Feed-in Tariffs for Nevada (FIT4NV), which had an active FIT bill (based on the German Renewable Energy Act) in the 2011 Nevada State Legislature. He also co-founded the Electric Auto Association of Northern Nevada (EAANN) and he is passionate about the energy transition, electric vehicles, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and smart garage technology, as well as global economic-, social-, and energy-justice.
Other invaluable members of the Energy Democracy TV team include: Waqas Hussain, Juliane Sperber, Amanda Groschke, Sjouke Ritsema and Thomas Gerke.
Special thanks to video producer Daniel Weissensteiner and music producer and singing coach Gitte Degn Calstrup for donating the production of the Crowdfunding Song to the project!
