Hi! My name is Devika.
I'm a sophomore at Stanford studying product design engineering and building amazing products. My birthday is May 7th. It was supposed to be June 30th.
Just like me, 1 in 10 babies born on this planet are premature. In a developed country like the US, I was able to survive and thrive with cutting edge neo-natal care. However, in developing countries, this is not true. Embrace is helping these premature and low-birth-weight babies to see the next day.
Embrace is a "warmer in a box" for newborns. Premature and low weight babies need warmth to survive problems like neonatal hypothermia. A mechanism to access this warmth is not available readily in developing countries. The Embrace baby warmer is replacing unsafe alternatives like light-bulbs and hot water bottles in these regions.
My team and I are running this campaign is to raise awareness and funds for neonatal education. Embrace is on a mission to create a community of empowered and educated healthcare workers working shoulder to shoulder with mothers to save babies in developing countries.
Embrace will use funds from this campaign to design the best visual tools and methods for delivering information to the neonatal workers and mothers. By the end of 2014, Embrace aims to reach 10,000 educators who will in turn reach over 150,000 low birth weight & premature infants around the world.
