6 months after lung surgery and 6 years after being diagnosed with incurable Stage 4 cancer Edie is walking 800 miles to each of the old 21 Spanish Missions.

Edie’s 60 day 800-mile walk to the 21 historic California Spanish Missions (6 months after lung surgery, and 6 years after being diagnosed with incurable Stage 4 gallbladder cancer) will inspire and encourage others battling incurable disease.

“Team Hope” is using this campaign to help create as much awareness as possible for Edie’s story, and to support her plans for ediesmission.org where late stage cancer patients will be able to connect with each other. Depending on the level of response, we would like to create a non-profit to organize additional walks across the country.

March 16, 2013 is Edie’s 6th year anniversary of beating back late stage cancer. This walk is a spiritual pilgrimage to light candles in prayerful thanksgiving and gratitude for the gift of life, and for the many people who have helped her along the way.

In 2007 when doctors gave Edie just a few months to live, she vowed to battle the cancer for as long as she could, and to live fully each moment left.

During years of aggressive chemotherapy regimens, radiation, and surgeries, she has remained fully engaged with her faith, family, friends, yoga, and walking. Edie found that walking is healing - spiritually, physically, and emotionally – and helps her not think about cancer, chemotherapy, or pain.

After Edie’s story appeared in the New York Times and in December’s The AARP Magazine, many late stage cancer patients and their loved ones found ways to contact her, sharing their stories and seeking her support. Her story inspired them, and their response inspired her mission walk.

Edie will start walking late February from the first mission, Mission San Diego built in 1769, and complete the 800-mile journey late April in Sonoma, the last mission built in 1823. The original trail no longer exists. Each day’s walk will be mapped using iPhone maps.

If you can take time off for an hour or a day, get out your walking shoes or hiking boots; she would love to have you join her. We invite you to follow the walk on Facebook: Edie's Mission Walk at http://www.facebook.com/EdiesMissionWalk?ref=ts...
