Earth School EnviraPod Education Center: The Future of Sustainability, NOW!

Something Good in the World is a grassroots nonprofit providing accessible, hands-on environmental education programs in Westchester County, NY.  For over 15 years, we’ve been inspiring children of all ages and backgrounds to reconnect with the natural environment and to discover their own abilities to live sustainably by immersing them in 'outdoor classrooms’. There, students connect with the natural world around them, learn about the earth’s living systems, and develop a sense of responsibility for their shared planet.

  • To meet the changing needs of our planet and to educate a new crop of young environmentalists, we’re growing our children’s programs in sustainable living to include the indoors as well as the outdoors.
  • We’re building the Earth School EnviraPod Education Center in northern Westchester County. EnviraPods are small, zero-footprint buildings designed for completely off-the-grid**, sustainable living.  The center will be built using eco-friendly building materials and will run entirely on renewable resources. There will be rainwater catchment and gray water systems - all creating a working example of indoor sustainable living. Visitors will see first-hand how they can include these practices in their own lives. **[Off-the-grid: Means that a structure is not tied in to any utility - not electric, water, or sewage.  It’s completely self-contained.  By generating its own energy without using fossil fuels, it also means the structure has a zero carbon footprint, meaning it doesn’t create any CO2 to add to the atmosphere to escalate global climate change.]
  • We’ll still be teaching about organic farming, taking hikes in the woods, and creating sustainable gardens in the Children’s Peaceful Garden.. digging around in the dirt will always be central to our programs.  But it’s critical for us to pioneer a new type of sustainability education as well - it’s the future of sustainability, right here, right now - and YOU get to be a part of bringing it all to life!

Our Need + Your Donation = Double The Impact

  • We need to raise $25,000 to get the construction of two EnviraPods off the ground.  This will be the first phase of building and these will be the central component of the environmental center.
  • GREAT NEWS!! A local foundation has pledged to double every donation made to our EnviraPod campaign!  That’s right, every dollar raised will be matched at the close of the campaign.  Just another great reason to pledge your support today..
