agendamahala.com is a website where anyone can take free courses in English, Webdesign, Programming, Marketing, How To Start a Business, Android App Development and more and I need your help to promote the website to people from third world countries using Facebook which has 170 million users in Africa, so that using their mobile phones they can learn skills for employment.
Because Facebook is the common denominator, everybody, everywhere uses Facebook, it is almost synonymous with internet access, so much so, that android (from manufacturers like Huawei, Samsung, Tecno, Itel…) ships with a Facebook app. Advertising in Facebook to third world countries where there isn't much competition is incredibly cheap. In Mozambique a $ 5 USD ad on Facebook can reach 12.000 people.
Well, most of these other websites are not free like Agenda Mahala. And even if they are free people from third world countries, without guidance and who are just getting access to the internet, have no idea that they can use the internet to learn and gain skills or to get a Certificate to apply for a job. That is why we must use Facebook to promote agendamahala.com. Once they start with Agenda Mahala they will find other websites where they can learn other skills. And even if they don’t, Agenda Mahala will keep growing, adding new courses and allow students to give their own courses or to share their knowledges with others.
"A huge challenge is developing online educational resources that can cater for Africa’s diverse and multilingual population. There is nothing at all on the internet in many African languages, because no one in those communities has the ability to produce content.
Booming mobile web access may be an effective way to access online resources, but what about those who want to create their own?" That’s why Agenda Mahala also teaches Web Design and Programming. We have a proprietary CMS that is used to create the courses, We can open it to allow our students to publish content even from their mobile phones.
There will be some really great educational resources coming out of Africa as more people get mobile and are able to produce content. Different models of mobile learning – and perhaps more effective models – could emerge from Agenda Mahala’s students.

Advertising on Facebook - I'll need a minimum of $1000 dollars per country, which I will divide in 12 months. From this money 72% ($ 720) will be used to pay for the advertisement, and 28% (280 USD) will be used for operational costs like hosting. Additional donations will be used to help with other fees. Let me give an example of what can be done with $720 USD. 720 USD for a year, which is equivalent to 60 USD per month, or 2 USD of advertising per day. 2 USD per day of advertising on Facebook is enough to reach 5.000 Mozambicans per day. Or about 150,000 Mozambicans per month or about 1,800,000 people per year, which is more people than there are Mozambicans on Facebook, in total there are 1,600,000 active Mozambicans on Facebook (Mozambique has a population of 28 million), which would imply that an advertising can reach every person in our audience target which is 15 to 35 years old (1,500,000 people).
This will be done to each of the 20 countries. So $ 20.000 USD. If we get less than that, we will help as many countries as we can.
The remaining $10.000 USD are for development costs. Agenda Mahala is a big peace of software that I first developed to inform about events happening in a particular city. And it contains a note taking app, that I modified to create my personal CMS to publish courses on the website. I want to transform Agenda Mahala and add new features:
As you can see Agenda Mahala will become the go to place for people from emerging countries and we will grow with this people.
Anyone who helps will get an ad free usage of Agenda Mahala.
The project will survive thanks to advertisements on some parts of the pages. I use Google Adsense. The website currently generates $ 1 per day. I expect at the end of the project to generate at least $ 15 per day, equivalent to $ 450 per month. A portion of this amount will be used to reinvest in advertising without additional help and also to develop more courses.
Unfair Advantage to Mozambique and Other Third World Countries
Most developed countries have an unfair advantage over third world countries like Mozambique. Most developed countries know the importance of teaching English and have excellent English language teaching programs, most of these countries have had access to the internet since its inception in our society and the practice and teaching of programming has been very good in these countries.
In Mozambique we have deficient teaching programs in which there are many students for a few teachers, a classroom has an average of 50 students, and the teacher, no matter how hard he tries, can’t get great results from the vast majority of his students, I know because I grew up in this educational system.
We are going to offer an Unfair Advantage to Mozambique (and other third world countries), let's give anyone who wants free English and programming courses with the promise that they can use their knowledge for employment and self-employment. Let's flood the market with web designers and programmers, forcing new companies to emerge in this area and we will also have many free-lancers who are thirsty for success. We will teach people who want to open their businesses to go ahead and have the responsibility to start a business and to change the country. Let's inspire and help people. We will accelerate the development of Mozambique (and other third world countries), accelerate the digital age, and we all win, websites and apps make life easier for all of us, and I would like to see more apps in Playstores made by People from Third World Countries to solve their own problems. We will have a better world because people from third world countries will have a voice and will be able to express themselves.
The biggest risk and challenge for this project is the insufficiency of funds. To do this I need this funds, they will allow me to focus only on Agenda Mahala. I speak Portuguese, English and French and I would like to have all the courses given in this three languages, right now we only have Portuguese and English.
Hosting fees will increase as the website grows. The website is database driven and consumes lots of resources, I will need to scale it.
We may not make the impact that we believe we will make, but we are reaching for the stars even if we fall, we will at least reach the moon.
Please share, share, share.
And don't forget to check Agenda Mahala.
