A short film about loneliness, hope and a tragic discovery....
Out of money and options, 20-something Simone pays a visit to Francis, an intimacy-starved pensioner to make some quick cash, but her task is not what it seems and leads her to an uncomfortable realization about Francis’ existence.
Simone is beautiful, in a rough kind of way. An uncut diamond. It’s through her that we’re given a window into this old man’s life as two opposites collide through an unlikely connection.
It’s a bold, emotive story that twists and turns towards the climax. We hope that the story will draw you in and stay with you after you’ve watched it. Our intention is purely to serve you, the audience, to provide you with a truly emotional cinematic experience.
What We Need
We’re asking for the absolute bare minimum that we need to get this idea off the page and onto the screen. Amongst other things, £8k will get us our camera and lighting equipment, our locations and our actors. We have ambitions to cast the finest actors possible for the parts and intend to collaborate with an established casting director in order to achieve this. Our film requires a significant rehearsal period for the character of Simone during which we’ll choreograph the main set piece of the film. We have a wonderful team poised and ready to go, offering their first class services for free and we need to ensure that everyone is fed and watered and transported to and from set. Finally, we’ll endeavour to get this film shown at festivals around the world, incurring significant submission and delivery fees in the process.Basically, we need your support to kick off what could be an amazing and defining journey for this poignant and intricately crafted little film.
With the support of Alzheimer Scotland we hope to raise awareness of an often overlooked cause, while donating 10% of any money generated by the completed film. Further information can be found at http://www.alzscot.org/.
We have some really cool things to offer over there in the perks list so we hope this can become a two way street. Either way, thanks for reading and stick with us on Twitter @dustandresin and feel free to share the links to get the word out.
Stephen and Jess
Dust & Resin is a poignant account of a moment shared between two people from opposite backgrounds. It combines the depth of an art-house character study with the story beats and structural consideration of a Hollywood tentpole movie.
It exists in the same world as Ratcatcher, The Selfish Giant, and Fish Tank–all films that have moved and inspired me in different ways and that’s my goal for you too.
This story has been in my head and in various drafts of the script for almost 3 years now. I know Simone and Francis and I love them both equally. They don’t feel like characters in a script anymore, they’re real people to me and I find myself talking about my hopes for them both in the greater context of the story, beyond what happens on the page. I’ve no doubt that this attitude towards the characters is going to make them shine on screen and I can’t wait to bring them to life and share them with you.
Why me? I’ve been a director, producer and editor of music videos, promos and commercials with London production house Chrome Productions for the past 5 years, honing my skills on large sets and big budgets for well-known brands, ad agencies and artists. I’ve written and directed numerous music videos, all with a sense of character and story at the centre but what I haven’t yet done, is applied my skills to pure, narrative film-making and that’s why I need your help. I have a deep rooted love for storytelling and cinema and its power to move audiences and I couldn’t be more excited to share my passion with you in what I’m confident will be my most accomplished work to date.
