Our company’s team includes Dr. Lillian Lien, Medical Director of the Duke Inpatient Diabetes Management Service. She is also the creator of the Lien-Spratt insulin dosing nomogram, which is one of several clinically validated tools included in the app. Also we have important content to help improve diabetes care for children, written by Dr. Robert Benjamin, Clinical Director of the Duke Pediatric Diabetes Program at Duke Hospital.
We need your help to bring the knowledge of our expert medical team to an easy-to-use smartphone app, to improve care for the millions of people in the U.S. and around the world who are affected by diabetes. The app allows doctors, residents, nurses, and other medical professionals to input individual patient information and within seconds receive expert guidance on insulin dosing, backed by tested formulas.
Additionally, we can integrate Diabetes Consult with your institution's own diabetes management protocols, with the potential to customize it to suit your unique needs for seamless care.
People with diabetes are more often treated by non-diabetes specialists than by diabetes specialists. An endocrinologist is not always on the care-team to give their recommendations for diabetes management. They could be followed by any other type of medical specialist instead, depending on their reason for going to the doctor.
So we designed Diabetes Consult to help doctors/teams of all kinds provide top-notch diabetes care for all types of patients!
Currently doctors may use hard copy guides to manually calculate insulin dosing which can be cumbersome and time-consuming, as well as leaving more room for error. Or they could seek a consultation with an endocrinologist specialized in insulin dosing. However, tracking down a specialist, particularly in late hours of the night, typically proves challenging because such specialists are scarce (if available at all). These methods have contributed to the error rates as previously described.
Here's how you can be part of the solution:
Your contributions to our campaign will fund a clinical trial, and other start-up costs as described below, to help us gather information on how our prototype can be improved and tailored to best suit the needs of the doctors who need it most.
We appreciate your contributions, and want to involve you in the process, whether you contribute financially or by helping spread the word about this opportunity to improve care for the millions of people living with diabetes.
We have already developed the iOS prototype with plans to develop in Android next... but our team needs to secure at least $60,000 to go from here to product launch!
We have set a reachable goal of $10,000 for this campaign and will continue to work hard towards what is needed to bring this important product to the market.
If you are able, please consider a contribution today to support research with this important Diabetes Consult tool. Every dollar helps!
While knowing that you've contributed to improving medical care for people with diabetes and potentially saving lives is an incentive in and of itself, we also want to express our gratitude for your generosity!
Huge thanks to our Silver Sponsor, who donated in honor of their many loved ones living with diabetes, and one very special individual in particular:
Thanks to everyone for your support! We are working hard to prepare for the upcoming clinical trial and are finalizing the app for release....
