The Dead Sea Scrolls are Coming to Utah!
The Leonardo in Salt Lake City has been selected by the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) to display the largest collection of scrolls and artifacts ever to tour outside of Israel. Only 10 cities will have the honor of being selected to host this exhibition - and Salt Lake City has been selected as the 5th host city beginning November 22, 2013 - April 27, 2014.
Dead Sea Scrolls: Life and Faith in Ancient Times displays the scrolls that are considered among
the world’s greatest archaeological discoveries. The Scrolls contain the oldest
known copies of the Hebrew Bible and provide a window into the lives of the people living in and around Israel in ancient times. Of the more than 500 objects from the
Biblical to Byzantine Period, many objects are from recent
archaeological excavations in Jerusalem and have never been publicly exhibited.
Objects include remains of historical and religious articles, weapons of war, stone carvings,
textiles and beautiful mosaics along with everyday household items such as
jewelry and ceramics.
With your help, we can bring one of the most profound exhibits ever to reach the Intermountain West to our community!
What We Need & What You GetThe cost to host an exhibit of this magnitude is very high. To date, other host cities have charged a premium rate for admission to this exhibition to off-set these expenses. We didn't want to do that. That is why we need your help. We are reaching out to our community to help underwrite the costs through donations. Every donation helps!
We are asking for your help in reaching and exceeding our goal of $10,000 to help supplement the cost of bringing in this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Support levels range from $10 and up, and are accompanied by fantastic perks. With all donations, you will receive a personal thank you from our Executive Director, Alexandra Hesse, and personal recognition on our web page as a key proponent in the funding of this amazing exhibition.
The successful completion of this campaign will assist in bringing the largest exhibition Utah has seen since BodyWorlds in 2008 where 300,000 people toured through that exhibition in only 3 1/2 months. The exhibit displays 20 original scrolls and more than 600 authentic artifacts from Israel over the course of 5 months.
Your valuable contribution will allow us to host this internationally renowned exhibit and provide an experience that many in our community would otherwise never see in person. Thank you!
